I am clearing cupboards and have found a book which my mother won in 1908. It's Aunt Louisas first book for children. In it is a Promiscuous Alphabet. I've tried Mr Google but can't find out what it is. There are two, one capitals on small case and both different letters.
Any one that can add to my ' learn something new every day' please.

A number of readers published in the early part of the 19th century used the Alphabet or Spelling Method. Among them was Schoolmaster’s reader which made extensive use of the promiscuous alphabet [i.e. the presentation of letters in random order] to make sure that the child learned his letters regardless of order.

So it’s just a randomly ordered alphabet to test the child? Maybe that is why there are ticks against the letters, the child recognised them even out of order.

Oops Janine, you posted while i was reading and then typing! I forgot to refresh the page.

Is this it?

Yes, that's the one. Mum would have been 5 when she won it, it was a Salvation Army prize for good attendance.
Thanks for the information. I knew that someone on the forum would have the answer.
