1999 Hymer B544
Hi All,
We are currently away on a trip in Ireland. Last night the kitchen tap stopped working- mid use it just slowed to a tiny drip ha I g been fine initially. The pump still activated when tap on. Doesn’t matter if hot/cold. Click can be heard for the micro switch. Tap in bathroom is fine. Tank full. Battery good and hooked up presently. No leaks evident. Can’t figure it out. Wondered if anyone might have any thoughts? It’s a Hymer B544 1999 with a submerged pump. Thanks in advance for any help! Tom

It seems that the tap cartridge has failed. You can often take them out and clean them

Do you think the switch in the tap is working because you can hear it, or because it fires the pump?
Just because you can hear switch doesn’t equal it not having broken wires. Try putting kitchen tap in on position then gentry operating the basin tap and see if water appears at kitchen tap.
May also be worth looking at the very end of the spout, see if it unscrews and is blocked.

Thanks for all the responses-
Winger- yes the bathroom tap is working fine
Stealaway- thanks, how do I remove the tap cartridge? I can’t figure how to open the top of the tap
Landy Andy- opening the tap activates the pump but only getting a tiny drop of water out.
Not sure if a photo is useful but will put one below.

I will see if I can figure how to open the tap and clean it.

Prise the red/blue marker out, there should be a screw underneath 👍

Update- Just removed the tap arm (not sure if that’s the correct name) and got a bunch of limes ale out so the blocked tap cartridge seems correct. Still doesn’t flow through the tap body so will need to figure how to remove that.

You can get replacements, just Google 'tap indices' 👍

They are a devil to get out. A thin miniature screwdriver or a Stanley knife blade will do the trick, but there's nearly always a witness mark left.

We had a bathroom mixer tap fail by locking up solid. Found and bought a replacement for £60 ish. Fitted it and all working ok. Out of curiosity I inverted the old tap and filled the hot and cold inputs with distilled vinegar. Within 10 mins it was free and working again! Now kept as a spare… Vinegar was 30p or so!:

Have some vinegar in the van so hopefully can use that if I can get the tap off.

Have got this far but can’t figure where to from here - the screws inside are hard to get at- is that what I undo next?

Stupid question have you checked the filter at the end of the tap spout?

Yes- it had lots of sediment/limescale but still doesn’t flow from the main tap part even with the spout fully removed so expect inside is similar. Just not sure how to get into it.

I had to undo ours from below. There is an access panel in our sink vanity unit. Large diameter threaded nut around the whole tap body - not one of the monobloc style mixer fittings on our kitchen tap. Once I’d released the tap from the sink, I could lift it enough to disconnect the supply pipes which had vertical push fit plastic connectors held in place by a mutual horizontal push fit cotter pin set up. Might have pics - will look later today.

Now I’m looking at the replacent pic, the retainer of the original was actually a large diameter circling. Fitting nut went around the whole body of the replacement. Carefully sliding the central black pin out (don’t drop it!) allowed me to unplug the pipe fittings. Good luck! :-)

For comparison - this is the monobloc style fitting that screws up into the underside of the kitchen tap. Could be that you have one of these. Can be really awkward to get at. There are specific long box spanners for them - search under “monobloc tap spanner” or similar.

*circlip not circling! Gtg now - hope you get it sorted.
