Hi all. Have searched through many posts but just can’t find the answer. Can anyone offer advice? I’m sure I’m doing something stupid.
My Telefonica RUT950 just will not work with a new Lebara sim.
It’s a 35GB sim unlimited minutes and texts which I have set up on my iPhone with the correct APN and everything is working as its should.
As soon as I put it in the unit it just comes up with no network connection?
My Smarty sim that I have in my iPhone works perfectly.
It’s a 5G sim which works fine in my 4G iphone.

The sim is perhaps not permitted to be used in a router. I got a sim a few days ago and the company confirmed they do not guarantee it will work in anything but a mobile phone?

Thank you. Thought that may be the case, or maybe it doesn’t like the fact it’s a 5G sim? Just strange that my Smarty sim works great in the unit. I chose a sim from a different provider to spread the chance of getting a connection. Ah well.

My Lebara SIM works ok in a Netgear router.
Have you set the apn on the router ? It maybe set up for another network

I wouldn’t know where to start. It’s works ok with Smarty(3) and also EE. Would I need to connect a computer via an Ethernet cable?

My Lebara sim works fine in my Telefonica RUT950, with the APN set to auto but worth trying with manual setting.

Thanks. When I set it up on my iPhone I got a text through with the APN settings which I put into my iPhone and all worked fine. Do I need to do the same to the router as well? I wouldn’t know how?

You'll need to go into settings, does it use an app ?
If they'll be in there, or the 192.168.1.0 route. Those numbers may not be correct for your router ?

Thanks for that. I’ll download a user manual. Hopefully that will tell me how to change any settings in the router. Guess I should have done that first 🙄

I've also used a Lebara PAYG SIM in my Teltonika without issue.

Can't remember if my APN is on Auto or not but I suspect it probably is...

As for how to change it on the Teltonika router, this might help.

However, the first thing I would do is update the router (and modem) firmware.

I see there have been some updates in the last couple of months that address an issue with APN requests happening too quickly so it could be as simple as that.

Thank you. I will give that a try. Wonder if I put another sim in that actually works if I can do the updates through that?

You need to connect to the router's WiFi with a tablet or laptop, don't use a phone as the screen will be too small.

Then open a browser and enter 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. This should open the Teltonika configuration page, from memory the login and password is "admin" but I may be wrong. When entering 192.168.1.1 don't let the browser autofill for you as it is likely to take you away into spoof sites.

You will then, if 192.168.1.1 works, enter the wonderful world of Teltonika configuration. My advice would be to move slowly and don't change things at random! However, this is where you can change the APN settings etc.

Thank you for your help. I will definitely try when I’m home and use a laptop as you suggested. Back on Tuesday from a short trip. Will let you know. 🤞

Thanks for all the replies. Took me a while, mainly cos I have no idea what I’m doing. With your help managed to update the firmware and all now working. I couldn’t update to the latest firmware straight away so I did a slighty older one then the new one stuck. Didn’t have to adjust any APN settings. Appreciate everyone’s time and knowledge. Happy New Year 🥳

Thank you. Your info was a huge help. I see what you mean about moving slowly 😅

Glad you got it sorted. Just wanted to add my experience in case it helps anyone reading this in the future.

We run a dual sim router with 2 different networks and we also then run both our iPhones on different networks, giving us as many options as possible for reception/data, also helps with the whole EU data cap rubbish.

Our experience is to always set the APN manually in the router and all other devices where you can.

The reason being that different networks operate slightly differently to each other. For example if I set the APN to auto on say our three business sim it works perfectly in the UK and in France, think possibly also in Belgium, however as soon as we cross to Netherlands it simply will not connect until the correct UK APN is set.

So safest most reliable setup for us is to set the correct APN, since doing this we have never had a network connection issue as we travel between different countries.

It can also help with streaming UK TV as setting the correct UK APN means your connection is seen as a UK connection so need need to activate VPN etc, some auto APN setting will connect to a local data not UK, not as common though.

Thanks. Would setting the APN manually increase the speed of connection? Noticed that when I tested the connection in an iPhone it was around 45MB. When I put it in the RUT950 was only about 15MB download. I guess the router is not the latest spec so that was probably the reason? Either way it’s stable now and 15 MB is plenty fast enough. Happy New Year

In most cases I would say no, however I believe there are some fringe cases that it may, for example when roaming. Best practices suggest setting APN manually ensures you are always on the correct network and not being passed through so to speak.

Happy new year to you also and to all other MHF members
