Newbies off down south spain, Hola!

Early next year we intend to buy a converted panel van/campervan and take off on several 1 and 2 month trips. The first would be maybe late feb/early March for some early spring sun in southern Spain. Being tightwads, we would like to wildcamp as much as we can. Have had a bit of experience in OZ and NZ so not new there. Will have at least 2 large solar panels and 2 house batteries and hopefully a decent 12v/led set up and fridge with a sep diesel heater if needed. Looking at any tips n hints etc.

Campercontact is a very good resource for locations to park up overnight.
Also park4night but not as reliable but still useful.

Yep Campercontact works for us. Mixture of pay sites and free , parking areas

we have found you can overnight in carparks if you feel safe. Usually other vans around anyway . Relaxed inland, others will tell you about the southern coastal areas.


should carry a spare wheel in Spain, think its a legal requirement, we carry a spare tyre but make sure it’s the same make as your main ones. Got caught out in portugual, wheel size and load bearing exactly the same, but different (cheaper ) make so different tread pattern so could’nt fit it. Seems to be the same in france.

gas cylinders have different fittings so take enough with you , unless you have an lpg external tank you can fill up at petrol stations,
(we have been 6 weeks on a 13kg calor gas , just cooking and fridge with spare gas left., we have diesel heater)

Depending on your route down , reseach the need for all season tyres and even snow chains at that time of the year. Also diseal prices between spain ( cheaper) and france , portugual ( more expensive) as of Oct 19.

and, of course, leave nothing but your tread-marks!

Spare toilet cassette and battery bank, we are newbies and found you definitely need these two items as well as solar for of grid. Happy camping ??
