We need to get a spare key for our 2015 Rapido A class Fiat Ducato ( Remote for ignition and central locking) . Any recommendations for companies/ persons up and around the St Neots ,Cambridge, Bedford area.
Have ordered a spare retractable key from the fiat professional garage in dunstable (Norhern Commercials).
Not cheap though £230 + £80 to program it with the ECU.
Takes a week to get it from fiat in Italy.
Getting it done when i get the service done in a couple of weeks.
Had to gulp a bit at the price but wanted 2 retractable keys and intend to keep the van for at least 10 years so only £30 a year.
Suggest you search on Facebook Marketplace, Shpock etc for someone in your area. I had two BMW smart/proxi keys and a regular Fiat Ducato key for our motorhome like the one you are after (apparently these are the easy ones to programme); he supplied the blank keys, cut and programmed all three for £300.00 and all function perfectly. I guess I got a good discount for having three done at the same time. £300.00 was the price for one via BMW. The guy drove over 100 miles round trip to our home in Leicestershire to sort all the keys for us. Unfortunately he is based in Lincoln too far away from yourself, unless of course you fancy a trip up to Lincoln but as I said I’m sure he’s not the only one in the country doing this type of work. PM me if you want his number.
Good luck
On my previous van, a Dethleffs, we had one key with buttons and a second key without the locking buttons. If we bought the same van in Germany, it would have come with two remote keys.
Checking on the price of a new remote key I was shocked to find it would cost about £300. We managed without!
Recently had to have new key for our Rapido A class after all the keys went for a long swim in the Mediterranean in pocket of swimming trunks.
Quoted £400@ Motorhome dealers, got them from local Fiat garage, Desira, took about a week as they have to come from Rapido in France, key £210 programming £30. Including V A T.
Expensive swim!
Rapid locksmiths in March did mine, MH only had one set of keys with it when we brought it, they duplicated all the keys (every single locker had a separate key) and duplicated/programmed the main ignition key so it worked correctly, the ignition key with programming cost about £50. I know they can do the remote central locking too but as ours is linked to the alarm which has a separate fob so not sure how much extra that would be. They prefer you to take the MH to them so they can check it's fully functioning but there is a big car park, with long lorry bays just behind the High Street next to the police station which is about 2 minutes walk away.
My Keys are covered by the Motorhome Insurance, (CCC, Club Care) for £12.00p/a. The Sprinter has 2 fully functioning Key fobs. But I had extra Hab door key cut, after I got locked out!!.
BTW. does anyone know if the "Self locking" feature can be permanently switched OFF?, It`s a real PITA!.
I've had very good experience with Timpsons, although not all branches can supply/program vehicle keys. Fortunately our nearest is at Tesco's, so no problem parking the vehicle within reach. I think you're paying a hefty premium for a retactable key though.
