According to the new rules, caravans and motorhomes will no longer be able to park for free within 5 kilometres of a public campsite or authorised camping area, forcing them to pay to park within the campsite itself rather than stop just outside.

They will also not be able to park up for free in urban town centres, places of public use or crowded places like Mazarrón beaches and parks, or even within 100 metres of riverbanks or roads.

Something must be lost in the translation ... how can any MH park more than 100m away from roads?????

Sign of the times, all about making money in hard times. The rest of Spain will follow in 2022. We have no problem parking around Spain, but don't park anywhere near other vans, just asking for the Police to knock on your door.

Strangely, a couple of years ago - and before the pandemic - the Mazzaron area was the only district we visited in Spain and had difficulty during January finding availability on a campsite - they were all full!

We did however note there were plenty of MHs parked around the town, much like illustrated in the press article.

Last year we had a post on here saying motorhomes were barred from an area in Spain only for it to be established it was false reporting. Some things about this post do not quite add up for me. If they are going to make it illegal to park a motorhome within 5 K of a campsite it is going to cost them a fortune in signage and with respect to parking on a road. if its legal for a car it must be for a motorhome too. Also, not quite sure about this but I thought national laws superseded local laws. It will all become clearer in due course for sure.

Yes we had the same issue - had to drive away from the area

At the end of the article in the link there is reference to an MH/Caravan exhibition. I wonder whether there is a campsite within 5 km? If so the exhibition might be poorly attended if parking there is prohibited! And what about the exhibitors - are they allowed to park their show vehicles?

I am cycling out to find it tomorrow,as I am thinking of attending the event. It is in Torre Pacheco on the outskirts on Los Alcazares ,so might be able to answer those questions 😁.
Cheers Cris.
Ps, just thinking,Torre Pacheco is not in Mazarrón so hopefully no change there.

We have lots of rules and the Spanish are always fighting against them, you can park as you would a car for 48 hours providing it's not a natural park on the beach or signs prohibited from doing so, there has been many pi$$ed off motorhomers lately moaning about foreigners breaking the rules, that think rules don't apply to them. 🙂

Would this Bulgarian do this at home. 🙄 Bob.

That's taking the pee, some vaners are unbelievable 🙈. Well I say unbelievable but I have seen alot of similar stuff over the years, I have not spent a winter in the UK in 16 years but I am still amazed at the brass neck of some of them.

Is this to prevent overnighting (camping) or parking (not overnighting) or both ... I can't make my mind up!

Hi, i think a post should be started with pics like this. I nearly started one the other day after seeing a French couple with full dining going on on the pavement and only 50m from a beach bar.
I think you should start it of with this pic👍.

Cheers Cris.

Parking: immobilization of the motorhome, caravans and housing vehicles approved on public roads, in accordance with the traffic and circulation regulations in force, regardless of the permanence or not of people inside, both during the day and at night, and provided that it does not exceed or expand its perimeter in progress through the transformation or deployment of its own elements and does not occupy the road with tools or belongings such as chairs, tables and the like, rest on your own wheels or shims, do not have the stabilizer legs lowered or any other contraption, and do not pour fluids or debris into the track.

Camping: It consists of the deposit of the motorhome, caravans and approved housing vehicles or similar in the space used, either on the wheels of the immobilized vehicle, or by means of appropriate devices of leveling, stabilization or strengthening to the terrain on which it is standing; invading with it a space greater than the perimeter of the vehicle in motion, and with deployment of chairs, tables, extended awnings or other belongings or tools.

In Valencia community it's 48 hours regardless of if your sleeping in it, as long as it's parked as you would a car, if bays are marked in the bays providing no signs prohibited autocaravana. 😎 Bob.

Sorry, but I would be calling or pointing the Police in his/hers/that direction. This is why things are changing here in Spain, so many Twats spoiling it for others.

It says free parking for caravans at the show Geoff

So how do the police measure the distance from where your parked to the nearest campsite and how are motorists informed they are within 5Km of a campsite. For me it does not add up. Surely if its illegal to park within 5 Km of a campsite the motorists needs to know when he is parking his vehicle that it would be illegally parked. \A shit load of signs on every street/road within a 5 Km radiuus of each campsite would be required.:rofl::rofl:

There are campsites at both ends of Puerto de Mazarron, so the whole town is essentially covered.
For parking (during the day) or camping (overnight)?

It will be for camping overnight I am sure. Having had a property there I am sure that is the intention. It remains to be seen how this affects beaches in the neighbouring municipality of Cartagena. One of the campsites is on the border of the two jurisdictions.

We were at Bolnuevo three days ago (in the Stalag there)

I did note on my amblings that, at the right side of the huge 'parking' area near the eroded rocks
there was an area approx. 50mts. x 50mts that was delineated by long lengths of wooden planking. (Easily 'driveoverable'?)
For one moment I thought someone in the locale had had a flash of 'Common Sense' in making an area for Motorhomes to park up
but I had a quick lie down in a darkened room and realised I was thinking stupid thoughts. At the time, three campers had made the first initial thought I had and had parked there.

I am aware that there are signs towards the rear of this huge area prohibiting motorhomes from parking
but with my Old Job head on, I found the placement of the signs to be curious.
One could drive off the road and park up and one would not have come across the prohibition signs whatsoever.

Had the signs been placed roadside, the prohibition would be obvious.

Further, I think I'm right in saying that there are two campsites and a Camperpark in the Mazzaron area. From my own experience, the 600 pitch site at Bolnuevo is invariably full. If that site had spaces on a regular basis I could understand the frustration of the management but put simply, they are raking it in and this 'New' piece of legislation is counterproductive. Mazzaron needs more facilities not more tubthumping.

There are 4 sites. Los Madriles, Bolnuevo, El Torres, and Los Delfines.
