Somebody at work today was telling me about some new rules coming into play whereby we'd be expected to supply an address of where we'll be staying for every night of our stay as non EU citizens entering EU countries.

Clearly this wouldn't be good for MH'ers.

I tried googling it after the conversation but couldn't see anything. Has anybody else come across this?

Wouldn’t you be staying in the MoHo? Sounds like daily fail scare story. Maybe they just need a first night address.

The current U.K. gov't advice is that visitors need to show proof of accommodation............

  • queue in separate lanes from EU, EEA or Swiss citizens.
  • show proof of your accommodation, for example, a hotel booking confirmation, proof of address if visiting your own property (e.g. second home), or an invitation from your host if staying with a third party, friends or family. As detailed by the French Ministry of Interior here, you may be requested to provide an “attestation d’accueil”. French residents will need to acquire the “attestation d’accueil” and pass it on to you before you enter France.
  • show proof of insurance for your trip. Please check the guidance on travel insurance here.
  • you should also be able to prove that you have enough money for your stay. The minimum amount required depends on your accommodation.

So Spriddlers post above seems to confirm what I was told?

How do you provide proof of accommodation when planning to roam in a motorhome?

That information is probably the same as any country we go to BUT we are very seldom asked for it

As I see it, as a Third country resident entering the Schengen Zone you will need to show where you are going to stay during your trip.....this may be another rule UK tourists will need to get used too since the start of this year, just like the 90 day ruling.....Im sure its going to get some airing on here.

Until now....no UK residents should have left the UK, in the year 2021 and entered Schengen, so this has not been put to the test...time will tell if this is going to be yet another restriction on Brits entering Schengen.

It’s the same in America etc, but normally only required for the first night.

so just make sure you know the address of the first Aire you are likely to use, or have your first night booked in somewhere.

(y) yes, that was my thought. The first night.
I haven’t looked for changes, but in all my foreign travels it is an address of where I’d be the 1st night of my stay.
A campsite is a valid address.
Well, also, [hint]knowing a valid address is a valid address [/hint] ;)

I verified the hint the 1st time I flew to USA.
I was going to be met by a colleague at the airport. So hadn’t expected to need to know the address of where I was staying,
There was no way the US immigration employee was letting me in.
Me saying “I’m meeting the person who knows in 5min, we can get him to tell us” cut no ice.
What did work was a BA steward being near enough to overhear my issue and say “as he forgotten where he’s staying AGAIN? Ssh. It’s a good job he told us it’s the Hilton before he got drunk”
And that worked. Hmm. That was 1988 maybe less likely to work now.

anyway, tl;dr
Just know an address.

You should have tried flying in from Bogota, Colombia to Miami in 1989 and being collected by a colleague taking you to a hotel!

The days of carefree heading off into Europe are over, sadly only the results of our own referendum to blame for that. We were chatting the other night, now that Covid is getting under control that we might resurrect our plans to rent out our place (it's in the New Forest and very rentable as holiday or longer-term) and take off round Europe for a year using a mix of van living and renting places, before we get too old to do it. Then we had that 'oh, poop' moment and remembered the 90 day rule. That's literally that plan scuppered.
Whatever views are on our departure from Europe, giving up the freedom of movement was a very big step backwards for this country.

If they ask about your accommodation just tell them they are looking at it.

Or give them any old address - are they going to check? or worse, follow you?
What I have read leads me to believe it could be a little different, but we will see, loads of people we know including on this forum didn't believe the 90 day rule will be introduced. matters not.....

At the moment there are different entry / exit rules in many EU countries.

What the ‘EU’ states may not apply to any particular EU Nation. National Covid rules apply at the moment. (y)

I believe its Schengen rules that will apply to Third Country entry. Eventually, in fact very soon we will be seeing some relaxation due to covid...then there will be a scramble to get into Europe mainland....

Outgoing some years ago in the Motorhome when getting our UK passports checked by British Official we were asked where we were going? I said South of France. He then said where in the South of France? I said we are in a motorhome so we will be going where we please and there is room. He then said I understand the concept of motorhome travel - now where are you going to stay in the South of France? I then said hopefully on an air at Pamplonne, near St Tropez. He was then satisfied. He was quite firm and insistent that I should tell him what he wanted to know! It didn't bother me but seemed somewhat intrusive and I have never checked to see if he had the right to demand the information or if he in some way check if we had actually been there.

There is an app Re-open EU which gives details of restrictions within the EU.

I’m only looking at one country at the moment, and I’m looking at its Government website everyday. I’ve also got someone living there giving me live feeds as things change. (y)

Spain are saying they intend to relax rules, others are not.

Good to have someone on the ground passing the info on.......

Better not plan on going well Germany any time soon
From the Guardian tonight

Germany’s new announcement declaring Britain and Northern Ireland a virus variant region will take effect from midnight on Sunday (10 pm GMT). They will apply to people with complete vaccine protection and those who have recovered from Covid-19.
A spokesman for the health ministry said:

“If we want to keep pushing down infection rates, we need to prevent contagious viral variants from jeopardising this positive trend. This step is hard for the UK, but it is necessary to prevent the rapid spread of the Indian variant in Germany.”
He added that only when more people have been vaccinated is Germany armed against such a danger.
German health minister Jens Spahn said earlier this month that Germany’s third wave of infections “appears to be broken,” but government officials are being careful.
