We desperately need a new mattress and would appreciate some recommendations please. Its for the nearside rear with a cut off corner, the bed lifts up for storage so lightness would be essential. We recently bought a Duvalay gold topper, but it made the bed so heavy to lift that we did away with it.So we have now decided to go down the new mattress route. Thanks

Have you had a look at the 'similar threads' at the bottom of the page 👍

Can't help with a name but,

Back in the day when 'French beds' were a new concept, the missing 'wedge'
had a mirror image cut out but filled in with a small infill on the opposite side, at the bottom of the bed.
This enabled the owner to turn the mattress over to get equal wear out of it.

If you have to order the bed you could get them to make it as a two piece.

Good suggestion but if you get one with a memory foam layer it will only be on one side so only turnable around not over;)

I brought a lovely memory foam mattress from Argos, let it roll out and expand in my living room and then dropped the one from the van on top. It also has a cut corner.

Then drew around it and cut to size. Fits perfectly and soooooo comfy, it’s easily done and highly recommended and a fraction of the price of bespoke ones 👍🏻

Beauty of doing it this way, was that I dictated costs, overall thickness and the thickness of the memory foam that’s layered on top. Saved a few bob and definitely a win / win for me. 🤗😀

Can’t turn around the ones with the corner cut of, or you’ll end up with neck ache and a struggle to open the loo door in the night 😂

Are you sure? don't you just cut two opposite corners off and and leave the one corner where its is while turning the rest, personally I wouldn't bother either way though.

Ive never needed to turn mine, but love the idea of the double cut 😄😂, it’s a bit like triple cooked chips 🍟

What did you use to cut the foam mattress please?

I did the same with an IKEA latex foam mattress.

I saw a beautiful twin memory foam mattress in a market today 10 year guarantee for £110.
It felt just like our Burstner ones.

We just had a new one from duvaley, which we are very happy with.

We’ve had two memory foam mattresses from https://www.mymellow.co.uk/mattresses

Very comfortable and they have great customer service and after sales service (only needed because of my mistake when ordering).

They will also discuss any specific needs firm/ soft etc.

And at the time they were considerably cheaper than a lot of the “specialist” suppliers.

Thanks all for your replies.I have found a company in Tamworth called Made To Measure Mattress, they have a showroom where you can go and try before you buy, I will keep you posted.

ditto. ours had the 2 piece type when we bought it which we didn't like so bought a new duvalay memory foam. best mattress I've ever had!

Another vote for IKEA, and you can try them out, very easy to cut to size.

On a related issue I've got a bit of damp between my mattress and my 1/2" plywood base. Should I drill some 2" holes every 4" or so to allow it to breathe?

Cheers James

Last year we replaced our mattress and used a company called custom sized beds. I found them really good and the mattress is fantastic.

Yes. It needs ventilation

An electric carving knife does a good job or just a good long bread knife!

Can recommend "Jonic", made to measure, not the cheapest or lightest, but one of the best investments made on the van. We bought two Zip together singles, easier to lift or let breath when stored.

Hi, I just a Dormeo foam one, it has zips at one en, easy to pull back and cut foam, I used a kitchen serrated knife

I agree with Diablo, Custom Size Beds are fantastic, the most comfortable mattress I have ever used, even better than the Emma mattress we have in the house.
