Have owned my moho for 2.5 years now
Has anyone used the park and ride on new dover road Canterbury as a stop over. I am going down early to avoid the weather and want somewhere to stop for a rest etc

As Simon Meadwell .

We always stay over as the possibility of delays, and missing train/ferry, when travelling from South Wales is high.

We drive over the night before, have a meal at the Pub, (good beer, adequate food), and relax before taking the Tunnel the next morning.

We did the same on our way to Italy a few years back - but traveling from Scotland (not via Wales btw).

Left home, called in at my parents, overnight at a BritStop, next night at our son's near Cambridge and third night at Canterbury ready for an early morning ferry. Got to the port early and was put on a much earlier ferry so made good time through France and got a day ahead of our plans.

Can anybody clarify if there’s a closing time for the P&R park area?

You can check out any time you like, But I think its 8pm last in. ( Hotel California! )
I heard it was 8.30 but in another thread I can’t find, someone said there wasn’t a closing time, too early for me to get there after work, ah well off to france on the 11.20 and pull on the aire around 1.30am, I know it’s not the done thing but the aire I use has comings and goings at all hours🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I just heard there's no closing time.

Like scousebird we don't live far from the P&R and often go there. We've been known to meet up from time to time for a little drinkypoos!
A little drinkypoos? ::bigsmile:

We checked at the office a few weeks ago and there's no longer a time restriction for entering the P&R

The latest entry is 8.30pm according to the Canterbury Council website.

I live in Hythe. Only ever use the P&R when going to the Marlowe. And only for matinees as the buses stop too early for evening performances!

It might get busier on the car side as Canterbury CC in their infinite wisdom are closing the P&R in Sturry Road and it means that there will be more pressure on Dover Road. No one wants to travel from east Kent to the other one at Wincheap.

Amazingly to coincide with that madness they are upping parking charges on all the other council owned parking.

We were there in june the carpark was only a third full. Dont think it has returned to full use after lockdowns so perhaps that is the councils thinking.
Hythe is a lovely town really glad we stopped there when we returned from Hastings, which is exactly the opposite and not worth a visit.

I emailed Canterbury council about the barriers and got a prompt reply.

The parking barriers are now open 24/7 with a 48hr limit stay.

Hopefully they'll update their website to show this too as when I looked last week it was still saying 8.30pm.

Awesome. I have emailed them but not got a response yet. but that is good to know

Thread bump, we’re thinking of using Saturday evening for Dover crossing on Sunday. How busy does it get at weekends though as concerned about arriving and it’s full!

Always plenty of space when we've used it and there's an overflow area at worst.

There are two areas. The one nearest the entry/exit barriers and a larger and always open expansion area to the right after entering. That is actually further from the entrance and the P&R buses.
