Traveling to the uk middle of September want to get some new carpets for are 2011 autotrail Dakota any advise please .

We had ours done by Care A Van in Brum some years back and we also had new vinyl flooring done at same time ,On our van there was nothing under the old carpet only boards. They made a good job but I should have had the new carpet made into 3 sections as a cooking oil spill made short work of the kitchen part also storage would have been easier.:)

The carpet that we had in our Talbot needed changing three years ago. I took out the old carpet, measured it and went to buy an off-cut from a local carpet shop. They asked what colour I wanted. I said "Mud colour, please!" Well, they found me the ideal one. I then used the old carpet as a template for the new and it worked perfectly. Cutting and fitting was much easier than I thought it would be. The new carpet made such a difference. It was like stepping into a new Mo-Ho, even though it was (then) 21 years old. A brand new carpet for the princely sum of £15! Still looks good three years on.

We have had our last three vans carpeted, I made templates and took them to Leek market in North Staffordshire where the carpet offcut stall is, and within a week he had made all the carpets and bound the edges for less than £100.

We wanted to keep the original carpets as unused as possible so we had an extra set made. We have a friend who has a carpet business. He took the originals to use as a template and from an off-cut he cut them to shape and then sent them off to have the edges bound. Total cost to me £20. We had ours made at Kustom Sport in Barnsley. They make them for Bailey and other caravan cow's.Good Quality

Most years we replace our carpets at motorhome shows. Our original carpets sleep under our bed at home. Spillage, sand, mud and grit are an almost daily service problem so giving these cheaper carpets a wash or scrub means they are not so precious. One amazing tool bought from a show, is a 'rubber' bristled brush. It is fantastic at removing grit and hairs.

I'm tempted to try this if I make fitted carpets for our van!

It’s really good I made a set for our van using easybind it’s very easy to use just net a hot glue gun.

Our van doesn't have carpets (budget model!!!) so I put loose rugs and runners in (the cheap ones from Dunelm) but in the winter it is nice to have something a bit more cozy underfoot. I would have to make templates (lining paper?) to ensure carpets would fit. Just another job on the never ending list!

That’s just what I did as we didn’t have carpets either made the van really cosy and quieter.(y)(y)(y)

I have often wondered if carpet tiles might work? Our van needs very thin carpet as the fridge door is set very low.

How would you fasten them down? My parents had carpet tiles in their kitchen and the edges and corners curled up after a while.

How would you fasten them down?

I wasn't planning on fastening them down. I was thinking that they would hold themselves in place against the sides of the van floor. Knowing nothing about carpet tiles I accept that I might well be wrong. Curling edges would be a problem.

Might be that the tiles my parents had were not the best quality :) They taped theirs together (on the wrong side) to try to hold the edges down but it was never really satisfactory.

We’ve done ‘new’ carpets twice now.
I got an good quality offcut & used the originals as a template then found a carpet binder online and the cost was minimal!

Can I be cheeky and ask how much ?
I wont be offended if you don't wish to disclose.

Sorry for slow reply - only just saw the question - £350 included cab area, habitation area, steps and they came to us on the campsite we were on which was around 2 hours from their base. I thought it was reasonable.

Should have said - they would not use the original carpets as a template as they thought they could make a better fit and they were right!

I use barrier mats/runners loads of different sizes, non slip, easy to clean, cheap to buy & washable.

We had ours done in Glasgow. We bought the carpet and gave it to them along with our old carpet to use as a template. They made a good job but the binding cost more than the carpet .

Looked a flotec in lovely colours, but decided a bit dear, so bought a sisal type runner and cut it to fit in 2 parts. Easy to take outside and shake clean and hard wearing.
But we are "tight" freeloading tossers. ;););)
Mitch.
