Post lockdown it's going to be pretty busy and more people than usual out in motorhomes many for the first time.

If you have a black tank that needs emptying there are a number of Camping and Caravan Club sites that have motorhome service points you can access for up to three hours (and the other facilities such as laundry) for a small fee (last count £7.30)

To make it a little easier here is a map I have created at this link of the 54 current sites offering g this service - check out the map and your can get directions, website and street view.

THE MAP IS HERE

I would be happy to add more places non C and CC where you can drop the black to ground level either quick stop off or when staying overnight, just let me know. I will check out some C and MC sites to add with a different coloured pin. C and MC don't have a stop off service but it is useful to know where you might stop over and find it convenient.

Enjoy

Public toilets can be found in most places and are free to empty your toilet cassette. Why pay?

Missing the point, no good for a black tank disposal. Hence the need for the map 😀

last year when we did cumbrian coast and some of scotland nearly all the public toilets were shut

Because lots of people especially the locals consider it anti social. That plus the fact it can splash everywhere leaving a mess for others.

It’s less than the cost of a couple of pints for hundreds of litres of water and emptying your waste.

Thank for this ceejayt (y)

We've been trying to decide between a cassette or black tank toilet in our next build for a while. Knowing that just the C&CC have so many sites, well spread out, where we can pay to empty has made up our minds.

Map bookmarked ;)

Yes, the service is currently suspended but I expect it to restart from tomorrow No reason for it not to

I wouldn’t go back to a cassette from a black tank. Much easier just that sometimes finding somewhere in the U.K. to empty ca be problematic hence THE MAP

Have they said this? They were closed last year IIRC.

Nope but I will be checking with them and will post. Sites are open tomorrow and it is not as if the stop over service is a communal activity. The toilet blocks won’t be open but just to dump should hopefully be okay

Just concerned that the same rationale would have applied last year, but didn't.

Yes. I have to say, common sense does not always apply when dealing with either club 😀

Have checked this morning the waste drop off service will not be available this season for people who are not booked onto a site.

That is bad news. Did you speak to them? I would have thought a sympathetic warden called in advance might be ok? I have queried this with them as well by email as only using the service point really should not present any COVID risk

I am afraid it does.

Touch contact is thought to be a major spreader of it. If someone hasn’t washed their hands and touches the tap, then someone else touches the tap the chain of transmission is complete.

It can be mitigated against by alcohol sanitiser and good hygiene practice so they can get round it that way and it is disappointing they aren’t.

So, if an overnight stay is required this season it means there is also the possibility of using Caravan and Motorhome Club sites that have service points. So...

As a labour of love (??) I have started to add C and MC sites to the map with a yellow pin - have done the 'A's and 'B's so far - you can again

VIEW THE MAP AT THIS LINK

So far, there are 78 possible service points shown on the map, more to follow. If anyone knows of any which are NOT C and CC or C and MC please let me know and I will add them to the map also because motorhoming in the UK may be the way it has to be for the rest of the year.

It didn’t operate last year so why assume it will this year?

Not all public toilets, especially in rural areas, are connected to public sewers, many are connected to septic tanks.

Depending what and if you use chemicals in your loo can affect septic tank operation. We have a septic tank at our French cottage, when we had it emptied the tanker driver saw our camper and told use that some chemicals used in cassettes will stop septic tanks working.

That is correct - not really the point of this thread 😀

The OP is trying to post a very informative post. My point is to to re reenforce his post in how useful it would be. Motorhome users get enough stick when a minority abuse the situation by not giving a toss at how it will affect others. Using a public toilet that may be connected to a septic tank could cause problems so I think that it is relevant to the post.
