Talking again to a pal today who lives on the NC 500 - they are going to find somewhere else to stay next summer to avoid the motorhome hordes... apparently locals are heartily sick and tired of the bad behaviour, filth, crowded roads, poor inconsiderate driving and attitude of the visitors.
Of course some of this is down to lack of facilities but behaviour like being downright obstructive, rude and abusive when being asked to move from a cemetery parking area before a funeral because “my app says it’s OK” isn’t going to gain any local approval for new MoHo facilities...
We haven’t gone north this year, nor used the MoHo much at all this year, due to the overcrowding and bad behaviour that’s being reflected on us by the bad apples. We were planning on visiting friends up there but now won’t as it will just add to the problems.

Most of you reading this are not the issue. The ones who are the problem sadly will take issue with what I’ve written and tar the rest of us with your filthy , inconsiderate brush.

It was always on the cards, as soon as the lock down eased it seemed everyone & his dog were going to head up to the north, north west of Scotland.
I did in fact say to all on here that mentioned they were considering The NC500 to give it a miss this year, especially if they have any fond memories of beautiful unspoilt wild spots, as those memories would be spoilt, should they try and do the same this year.

We did it in spring 2019 and it was lovely, but the usual places to avoid especially in busy times like Skye, and certain other places on the north west coast, made us change our planned route.
We did cross the bridge to get onto Skye to refill our LPG,we stopped for lunch in a lay bye, before exiting quickly, you would have to see for yourselves to believe how many camper vans were coming over, loads more hire vans than I imagined even existed:eek:
Somehow I dont think it will be much better next year either, but I hope I am wrong.🤞

We have resigned ourselves to only visit in the shoulder months, we are lucky as we have some family up in Ayrshire, albeit that is not very far north, but still wonderful if the weather & midges are favourable.

I think the NC500 is vastly over rated, yes the scenery is wonderful, but the negative sides certainly don't outweigh the positives, just getting to the north is one hell of a trek.

Scotland is an amazing country to explore & has something for everyone.

Try browsing other Scottish destinations folks, Scotland starts at the border & the scenery in the south isn't exactly dull? There are cities like Edinburgh & Glasgow if thats your bag & in the south the Galloway forest has vast mountainous areas with lochs if peace & quiet is what you want.
Small towns & history can make exploring a very rewarding experience.

Go on folks, spread your wings, open your eyes & take a chance on finding a new area to explore.

best thing you can do is get a tunnel or a ferry to the contient

We love Scotland. I learned to ski in the highlands, had many happy holidays.Single, married and with children and grandchildren.

I have not been to see our friends on Islay yet this year, sadly.

But it really is so much easier on the continent.

I guess it depends where you are based in the UK, what your budget is for ferry etc. If you are able to be flexible, there are some amazing deals.

I am sorry I cannot be more specific as I do not know your circumstances.

We travelled over from Cromarty to Drumbeg on Monday in car. We have a friend over there with a croft/craft shop. (Crafts on the Croft).
Anyway we have never see it so busy, it got so bad we were pulling into passing places every 3rd or 4th time. Not just moho's and campervans. we stopped at Ardmair for a sandwich and there were 4 caravans and 2 motorhomes trying to get in, all within 30 minutes.
Going around the coast via Clachtoll which was heaving, we passed quite a few moho's and campers. We arrived at junction to Drumbeg, left had turn and we had the situation of a car trying to turn around in the junction, we indicated left and gave him plenty of room to manouvre and get going, but a moho arrived from the other direction and promptly stopped on the junction effectively blocking the road, the car couldn't get out we couldn't reverse due to 3 cars behind us...stalemate.
The stupid bugger in the moho couldn't see the problem, till I got out and told him to reverse and get off the ****ing road.
I despair at the antics we saw that day, we are off at the weekend over the west to a couple of places we know, hopefully will be quiet.

Its not going to make any difference if you go or not.

If you think like that.....

Glad we did the area before the NC 500. I still want to visit Ferintosh on the Black Isle to see the final resting place of my maternal McKenzie ancestors.

We haven’t gone north this year,

I think I’ve read about 3 threads of yours now trying to get folk not to go to the highlands. You don’t own it!
Oh and you’ve not been this year...Hmmmm

Don’t tell anyone about the beautiful Dumfries and Galloway area to the south. Been wilding for a week in this area and it’s amazing.

Did the NC500 in a convertible car in November a good number of years ago (top down 90% of the time) Vowed i would do it again on the bike (with engine) and now we have the MoHo i suppose we will eventually do it in that......but not for a long while whist this nonsense is going on. Spose it would be pretty quiet in Jan and Feb, maybe do it then. :ROFLMAO:

Winter is a good time , the views from tops of hills/mountains are a wonder to see. Suilven is one of my favourites.

People often seem to suggest that stealing water from cemeteries is okay (even here!).

Oh my god. How dare you go to Scotland and enjoying yourself as well.:dance2: They’ll be after you now
You’re wilding as well🙈 what can I say...
We have actually gone a step further and we have used the toilet block on a site as well.
I know living life on the edge. We have even talked to other people. The shame of it all

As usual businesses and local authorities promote something and want people to come and spend their money, then when it becomes popular they can’t be arsed to invest some money back into the project and provide facilities...

shortsighted and get rich quick attitude.... be careful what you wish for..
