All good things come to an end. Also looking for new cover

Nationwide have obviously had their fingers burnt on breakdown vehicle provision costs.
Having watched a few "Vloggers" break down in the EU, their UK insurance companies (AA or RAC) sent out ADAC breakdown vehicles, and even though these vloggers mostly drive standard 6.4mtr PVC Fiats, Citroens, or Merc Sprinters, their vans just fitted on the trucks, with scary overhangs out the back.
The service they received was however pretty good for delivery to a main dealer, or garage that could do the work, however the outcomes & costs from there on varied a lot, quiet scary on inconvenience, and overall costs on some occasions.

Just shows the importance of checking our all the T&C's of your breakdown cover, especially if you have a longer tag axel van, and especially the emergency hotel cover, & repatriation to home, travelling with pets is a nightmare on these occasions as hotels & transport that allow them other than taxis or private hire cars is not always easy.

Anybody for a 6.5mtr van  On another note if you do have the Nationwide flex account it might be worth contacting customer services as they are loathe to lose custom. I managed to get travel insurance with them after most other companies said No or the premiums were extortionate. As for underlying conditions they are declared and not covered but all I needed/wanted was cover if I fell and broke something, everything else ( including repatriation if necessary) is covered I have no allegiance to Nationwide other than the account . If enough call they may reconsider their stance.

I specifically asked Nationwide if anything was changing with AA terms before we left for Spain & was told, no. AA would give same cover as Brittania. Even last night was again told this by NW, when clearly the terms have changed. I urge anyone effected to put in a complaint to Nationwide.

Have had a flex account for years, never knew about the cover though, ours comes with the Comfort insurance.

100% 👍

'Free' breakdown with banks used to be riddled with small print about limited recovery miles or recovery off the major road only.
Even insurance 'free' breakdown needs scrutinizing, I was with caravanguard but their included recovery didn't cover over 3.5t and it couldn't be taken off the policy. They have changed their rules now but they couldn't see the problem when I explained their 'free' breakdown didn't cover me 🤷‍♂️

Always read the details 😁

We are only 6.48 metres but 4.9 tonne so no good for us either.
The cover is changing to the below so the important points are 7m length, 7.5 tonnes weight and 2.55m width. The length includes bike racks so if 7m with a bike rack you are too long.
Maximum Vehicle Weight: 3.5 tonnes (3,500kg) gross vehicle weight
• Maximum Vehicle Weight for Motorhomes ONLY: 7.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight
• Maximum Vehicle Width: 8ft 3in (2.55m) which constitutes the overall width of the vehicle
bodywork excluding mirrors, measured at the widest points.
• Maximum vehicle length: 7m (23ft)*

They kept this quiet.

I just phoned Comfort and they want £65 for the year or part thereof for breakdown cover and £25 change fee or they would allow you to take out a new policy with a refund for the remainder of your existing policy. Couldn't get my head around it to work out if it made sense so left it until Feb.
That is the easy part.
Now with cover for our other 2 cars and the travel insurance just don't know whether it is worth the hassle to use another breakdown company and buy travel insurance separately every year.

Thanks we are ok then although not with them

Thanks for the info! OK, we're 7.8 metres and 4250kg. Any suggestions for a European trip for 90 days just to reduce the amount of searching I need to do?

Is this the flex account that you pay for or is free, Caz says she is with them flex account but doesn’t pay for it

It's the one you pay for and covers all your vehicles, phone and travel insurance.

I have just transferred a spare account to them which they will pay me £125 which covers the cost for 2 years from Comfort.
I thought the currant breakdown service was with Brittania, is that now moving to the AA?
Yes
There is a link in post #3

The way I understand it is, If you have a Flex account it's free but if you have a Flex Plus account you pay but it has more benefits?

A big thank you to Ninjabob for bringing this to the fore.

Could I ask exactly when the Condition to Sub 7.00mts was introduced?
As the cover INCLUDES Continental Cover I would suggest that those who have
left for pastures 'Over the Water' since Christmas would have cause for complaint if the Nationwide
had given Less than 90days for this new Condition.

It's from 1/3/22.
Clue in the thread title :)

I received this letter a couple of months ago, glanced at it but as my 6m x 3.5t PVC was not effected, I just filed it (although annoyingly, it didn't mention who the Breakdown company was and I am happy that it's the AA because my local chap is very knowledgeable)
