About to load up again for a small holiday.
When we prepare for an outing we like to get the MH a couple of days before departure and slowly load it up with our stuff.
We don't live in an area of high crime (I hope) but we are careful with security. The MH has it's disklock on etc whilst on the drive and it locked but with the alarm off , so it does not keep bleeping everytime you central lock it.

This means the hab door is locked and can be unlocked silently with the key.

However, it stuck me just how many times you remember something or need to check something and come and go from the van.
My hab door lock must be operated maybe 40 or 50 times in that 2 day period.
I feel for it and the amount of wear on the lock mech (Zadi)
Are there any clever alternative ways round this?

If I'm doing work in the van or loading for a trip, the hab door just gets locked at night.

Mind you, I do live in a cul-de-sac with the van facing the house. Reversing the van out of the driveway is normally difficult, at the best of times, because of parked cars. You could add an immobiliser device on the negative earth post of the starter battery to prevent opportunist daytime theft.

Why wouldn’t you alarm it just for the sake of a few bleeps?

Have you looked in the alarm manual to see if there is a way to arm silently?

Many alarms only bleep when they sense something is not closed properly, could you have a faulty sensor?

We have an alarm with silent operation, but due to number of thefts these days, I have also fitted a cut-off switch in the main battery lead to starter motor, as in my old sprint car, hidden away but accessible by me.
Detachable steering wheel, and a handbrake lock.
Enough to deter the opportunist thief, but a determined thief who is targeting a specific vehicle is difficult to prevent.
Locks only keep honest people out

As someone suggested when I originally got ours, may of been Minxy girl not sure, Buy everything you need and don't borrow stuff from the house. Then the van is nearly ready to go apart from clothes, food and water. Will also reduce the number of trips you make back and forward

As for the lock, not a lot you can do to avoid wear and tear. Whatever you use will still need unlocking.
We tend to gather all the stuff up and transfer an hour or two before we go. But we don't store the van at home so don't have the luxury of taking our time over a couple of days.

Thanks for your replies. There is no solution, really , but it struck me just how many times a hab door , potentially, can be used.
