Just a quick post to say whilst way in Scotland this time we did the lighthouse at Kintyre.

If any one is thinking of it be brave and go for it, ours is a 7mt motorhome, very narrow roads but we got there and back without any hiccups.
Didn't get to the bottom of the lighthouse, wife stayed up top and I felt guilty for leaving her alone in such a remote place so walked to the hairpin bend over looking it and took some nice photos also visited the Chinnock memorial whilst there. Used the dashcam on the way back to record the journey, so we can fondly look back at the end of the year.

Must say, wasn't too impressed with the Kintyre as a whole, coast roads were very pretty but in land could have been anywhere and Arran wasn't what I was expecting either, i was expecting quaint and pretty and didn't get either, (each to there own) quite dissapointed TBH.

We did spend the second week up around Gairlock and we feel this is home for us,Fabulous scenery and we had the weather too.

Roll on end of September, we plan doing Ullapool up to Durness, only taking our time this time revisiting places we rushed past last year.

Watch out for those seagulls at Ullapool, they even attacked my BBQ and took a red hot sausage before I blinked!

Thanks for the heads up, will be full alert now.

We were in Arran and loved it. Like you say each to their own... Agree with you about Kintyre but very friendly people and we had a lovely night in Southend. Cows on the golf course were a bit of a surprise.
Had a great tour around Dumfries and Galloway too. Took 8 days to have a good look. Thanks so much @lorger for all the tips.

Loved gairloch aswell

You'll have to do the Mull of Galloway lighthouse now, unless you already have.

Agree about the people, we stayed in Killergruer and Anne the owner was very friendly and helpful.

The lady in the hotel in Southend put the freightners on us when she said "you are going to the lighthouse in that" then a chap said nah be fine, the roads have been done as there is a house being built over past the lighthouse and the lorries have to get there, well if the roads had been done I would not have liked to driver them before.
Like wise with Arran, we stayed in Lochranza and the people couldn't do enough for you, it was just a bit to commercialised for me.

Not done the Mull of Gallowway but will have to have a look now, already done Ardnamurchan.

Gairloch, Altbea and poolewe, love them all, could retire there if given the choice

Been to Kintyre a number of times as my best old friend lives in Campletown. The long and winding road (yes the song was inspired by the road) has some tremendous views and there is a lot of good wild camping there.
