Hi we are hoping to sell our house soon and relocate to Yorkshire. In between our old house and finding a new one we are thinking about living in the motorhome on a site. Just wondering if you've done this and your experiences. Also do we redirect post to a campsite and find a new doctors surgery nearby even though we may be moving further away in Yorkshire?

You would have to have a friend or relative act as your address, I think? You can register with a GP as a temporary patient anywhere. We lived in the van when we sold our house - 3 years in the end!

We did this in 2004 when moving from south of England to NE Scotland. We redirected most post to my sister but the site we stayed on (a local authority one) let us have post sent there (so we had a local address for estate agents, solicitors, etc). It only took us 3 months to find a house and move in.

Friend or relatives for mail, bank account etc, strictly speaking full timers insurance- that's your call.

We did this years ago. Used a relative‘s address for re-directing mail, driving licence, DVLA, etc. The relative lived in the area we were looking in and we did stay with them for a week.

We didn’t stay on the same site all the time, moved around as we viewed houses.

Our move was quicker than philw111. Moved out 21st December, found house and moved in end Feb, thanks to having cash available, buying an empty property and the Scottish system.

We did similar, moving into a caravan in North Yorkshire until we bought our next home. We used a seasonal pitch on a campsite situated behind a pub and found the whole experience quite enjoyable.

Perhaps because the site was privately owned they were very 'accommodating' even when the site was, technically, closed for a couple of months due to planning constraints.

We did have use of a car which made life easier than it would have been if we had been dependent on a motorhome for everyday transport.

My son sold his house last July and moved into a touring caravan in our garden, along with his partner and 3 boys under 6y old (it's been a heck of a year, but that's another story  ).

They have had real problems getting a mortgage (it came through today (y)) because they were unable to provide utility bills (I pay them all!). After a lot of hassle the mortgage company accepted the local Electoral Register plus their driving licences :(.
IF you need to acquire finance, BEWARE!
