I can see the point if they need culling for their own survival/protection.

They are blamed for carrying ticks that are spread to the grouse (no scientific evidence) and its claimed they compete for heather shoots and other grasses

The unregulated use of a medicated grit put out for grouse to help rid them of internal parasites namely a worm that infests their gut and can lead to them losing condition and dying is also giving great cause for concern. Grouse moors are intensively managed to produce high densities of grouse which would not be the normal help spread this parasite.
