Motorhomes targeted for excessive exhaust fumes

The linked news story doesn't make much sense, at least not in this English translation. I was under the impression that Euro 3 diesels onwards already had exhaust catalytic converters.

I think what the Germans are trying to say is that only a SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue can meet the Euro 6b emissions standard for NOx. Which begs the question whether FIAT were cheating with their EGR workaround that claimed to meet the Euro 6 standard.

This might be the start of another Dieselgate.

On a similar subject, is there any way of "greening up" an older diesel? Ours is Euro 4 and the world is shrinking fast for vans in this category . . . .

Euro 6 is a lab test so can't be compared to Euro 6d which is based on real world driving measurements. All manufacturers seem to race to the bottom with compliance so it's not surprising that real driving figures are nothing like the lab figures. It begs the question how long Euro 6 will be exempt from LEZ and ULEZs and Euro 6d become the minimum requirement.

They can be greened up quite easily but getting the Euro class changed to a higher level is the hard part which means little incentive to do it.
