A question which I'm struggling to get definitive answer to , our motorhome only has seat belts for both driver and front passenger but sleeps four and has a front dinette both seat's facing each other . Can two adults travel legally seated behind both the driver and front passenger without being belted up

In a word no! quite often the number of berths does not equate to the number of belted travelling seats.

My understanding is that you can only have passengers seated, travelling either facing forward or their backs to driver/front passenger. It's not unusual to have beds for four and only two belts. Why???

Probably more to do with eating into the payload than anything else.

My 2000 talisman V5 is blank on the seating capacity but the van has one seat in the back with a belt and the other seat faces backwards with a bench along the near side so I could carry about 8 passengers if I was daft enough.

Are you sure that the passenger seat belts aren't hidden behind the seat cushions? You wouldn't know ours had them if you weren't aware they were there!

Ive only got belts in the cab and the single forward facing one behind the driver and no mention of seating capacity on the log book.

just looked at your model van online.
Confusion may be that you stated Dinette and in fact what you have most of us would call side bench seats... (y)
Bad news as no way can you even adapt on side facing seats..

Why anyone would want to have 80-100 kilos come past them at 40mph and through the front window is beyond me....(n)

ok guys thanks for all your replies its a NO , at least I know where i stand

@Neil S. Hold on a minute.

It is not a definite NO. It depends on the FIRST REG. of the Motor Caravan.
If it was FIRST REGISTERED before a date in OCTOBER 2007, (the actual date escapes me for a moment ) then regardless of the fact that the vehicle only has two seat belts, then ADULTS can be carried in side facing seats.

It does not cover the photo (above) but does cover a Motorhome that has seats fitted out as would a Land Rover Long Wheelbase with facing seats.

As to whether one should carry Adults in a vehicle so (not) equipped is a different question, but, in the case of Seat Belt Legislation IN THIS COUNTRY ONLY, no offence is committed

OP says bench seats, belts illegal on these even if fitted, they are lethal.

I am only answering his last sentence. "Can two adults travel legally seated behind the driver and front passenger without being belted up."
