Hi all

I’m new to the forum and to motorhomimg although I have towed a caravan around for twenty odd years.
We just had a week in Penrith and planned a visit to Keswick and so I looked on the forum for places to park in Keswick.
The answers that came up pointed towards Keswick Rugby Club and the posts suggested that you could park for £4 for the day and overnight. We drove in and parked and paid and stayed for the day but on returning there was a fella from the adjacent caravan site saying that the caravans and motorhome were not allowed. Had a look when we left and in small print on the Public car park sign it says cars only. I contacted the Rugby Club and the reply was that caravans and motorhomes are not allowed to park and took on my suggestion to improve the signage.

Posting this for general information.

So are you saying it was the warden from the CCC/CAMC site that said you could not park there. If memory serves there is not a very big carpark at Keswick Rugby Club to entertain mohos.
If you paid rugby club.. what does it have to do with adjacent site warden?

EDIT no thinking about it they do indeed have a large carpark adjacent to lane into the caravan site..

Welcome and thanks for the info. from The Cotswolds! (y)

Parking a MH in Keswick is an issue. If you are small enough then obviously the Booths carpark is ok. However myself and my sister once parked our 2 vans in one of the large coach bays adjacent to this car park and both paid the necessary charge - we both got a fine!! It was out of season and no coaches were evident. :( There is some parking just out of town (off High Hill) which is used by MH but it is usually busy and no guarantee of any space.

We have always parked here or very close to here. It is a proper car parking area and cannot be missed. A number of smaller motorhomes park in the bottom car park but we have always parked in the upper level.

I think the guy from the site was a bit of a jobsworth. The rugby club car park is large enough but they don't want MHS or caravans using it.

There's a car park near the Cottage hospital in Crossthwaite Rd where I've seen moho's parked before, I think it's less than £8 all day, but no overnighting. If that's too rich for your blood and you have a pvc or smallish van, you can usually find a roadside pull in on Brundholme Road, just north of the hospital and then it's a pleasant walk through Fitz Park and into town.

You can park at the pay and display by the theatre on the lake. Reverse into bay so your overhang is over the verge. We have managed 7.50 m long. Not cheap but close to town and the lake.

The car-park near the lake, (on the left, past the park), used to have dedicated m/h parking. I don’t know if it still has as we haven’t been up there since COVID.

Thanks for the info. I’m afraid if it was me I’d have told him to take his nose and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine.
Another excellent reason to come to France.

Last October on way back from Never Wasdale thought we stop at Keswick. Car park by lake has signs no motorhomes, Rugby club had sign no motorhome. Going to give up and on way out found car park at football club that allowed Motorhome parking.

They use to allow motorhomes park at the Rugby club but stopped it a good few years ago.

There two car parks right next to each other, one belongs to the Rugby club and I'm sure the one to the right is maybe Council owned, we always park in the one to the right.

I think I saw your motorhome parked there last week (we were staying at the C&CC Site next door).
I was slightly surprised to see a motorhome parked in the Rugby Club car park.
To be honest, the signage saying no camper vans or motorhomes is very clear.
Not that I agree - just saying.

Ooops, I'm getting mixed up with the Cricket club parking, £3 all day....

When I visit in the car I often park on or around Blencathra Street. There's lots of B&Bs there. Free roadside parking. Might not be suitable for big MHs though and you might struggle more in summer. I usually go up in winter because I can't stand the crowds.

probably because the CmC club kick off.

there is plenty space you think the club would want the extra $$$
Why would the 'CmC' 'kick off', when the site actually belongs to the Camping and Caravanning Club?
