Motorhome garage .

I thought long and hard about getting something similar but plumped for this set up

Amazon product ASIN B08X4DXCXM
Then connect the other bike to the first one with a clever clamp to clamp locking mechanism (about £20) but cant find it on amazon. Both bikes are very secure. Taken them over 8000 miles in the back of the van like that and less than a minute to load and unload both in the garage

New motorhome has one though I’ve never had one , im going to fit this to secure the bikes

Has any one any top tips for a garage newbie , thanx in advance .
This one is in our Arto... brilliant bit of kit. We used it to secure all sorts of things 😂

My garage had one in when I purchased my van, soon took it out as it took too much room up. I just ratchet strap the bikes to the Fiamma load bar on the rear wall of the garage, less wasted space and very secure.

Any pics please

Same as others. I had one used it and stuck it on ebay, just gets in the way. I opted for the bungee strap method.

The Thule Veloslide is a great piece of kit and comes in two lengths.

I also have the thule veloslide. If i had the spare payload I would have fitted a tow bar and tow bar rack and kept the garage space for important stuff like.......

Far easier just to strap the bikes to the back wall, those bike racks take up far too much space. They look like a good idea but in practice you end up losing ½ your storage space.

This is ours,

It's just a bit of ply in each corner with the fork holding clamps screwed on then some alloy angle to keep them in situ, if the bikes aren't in the plates just lift out, likewise if no scooter the Rock N Roll can come out as well, 30 seconds tops

Ratchet straps rather than bungees. Bungees can allow some movement and chafing.
Cam-lock straps on the scooter but bungees on the bikes, I don't know why I bother though as the fork clamp holds them in place anyway.

Losing the space might be a plus as I’m desperately trying to carry less crap around in the van ! 🤣🤣🤣
Two bikes , leveling blocks , rotisserie, table , pup tent , chairs , hot plate ( Japanese thingy ) two lafuma loungers ( summer only ) , reels x2 for hook up
Levellers have always lived in the body of the van however .
Will require boxes for tapes , spares , tyre pump etc .
I can see this getting complicated!

From what I’ve seen of vans with garages there’s so much cr oh sorry, essential items in there that nothing can move around. If you get a holding system you’ll be packing stuff between bikes anyhow

We have the Veloslide too - love it. Yep it takes up a lot of space, but a) it stops us filling the garage with too much crap, b) there's less chance of the bikes getting damaged, and c) its a dead easy 1 person job to load them.

Martin

Our bikes are free-standing so we strap them to the vertical bars on the plinths in the garage. We also use ratchet straps for the table and chairs(hardwood) as they are also free-standing.

I looked at those until stumbling across this you tube video Garage solution

This inspired me and I ended up buying this Rack and have it attached to cargo rings with heavy duty cable ties. I can get 3 bikes in these but usually only have 2 and the other "slot" gets used for a table and my silver screen. The 2 bikes that go in there are full suspension eMTBs so not light and this solution is rock solid.

I saw that video and looks a good solution .

.
I fitted some (eBay) load area floor rings onto the back of the bike rack bolts.

push the bike in, (it has no front wheel at this stage) turn the bars flat to the back wall, and lash to the rings - tight as I can.

Then jam some sleeping mat between the bars and the wall to stop chafing.

This works fine, but having to take the front wheel off every time is a pain - always scared of scratching bottom of fork legs.

So I'm hunting for a van with a higher door aperture !

It works really well, with some decent straps it takes seconds to get bikes in and out and it's rock solid. I carry spare cable ties but haven't needed any!

I’ve ordered the rack ! Hoping the van will be ready for collection on 25/8 , one week prior to France to Spain trip …….. gulp !

One piece of advice with garage storage, it will evolve as you use the van so be careful what you screw down…..

Usually takes me 1yr to get things settled and organised as i want them. At first the theory tells you one thing and then reality another as you use the van…..

To save space i attached Mrs R’s bike to the back wall against the chairs and table, then my bike just wedges in and i use some foam pads to stop them scratching each other. This maximises space but if you have the luxury of plenty of that commodity then a sliding rack is super handy.

These days i cheat with having a third bike in the garage🤔

Garage pic now as I’m sat (very bored) outside the Trafford Centre, 2.5 bikes in there😉

25/8 delivery date confirmed!
Thanks for all the advice re the garage , if all else fails after due diligence and time I’ll revert to a external bike rack !
