Hello fellow campers

Could anyone recommend an air awning for a Motorhome, We have seen a few including a Kampa one which looked very respectable and was easy to put up and down but it was quite pricy (to me anyway!!). We are looking for one around 390-400cm in length. We have a fiamma f45 currently and I believe some of the awnings can slide onto the fiamma awning rail.

Many thanks to you all. Have a nice day.

Hi We have a Kampa blow up awning for our carthago motorhome and very pleased with it, it did cost us £850 but I always say buy cheap buy twice.

Yep my husband agrees, he says if you get 10 years from a Kampa it is only £100 a year. They do look a sterling job but have yet to see one in person, only on the internet. Do you recommend an awning skirt or is that an expense we can avoid ?

Having spent the last two weeks in the torrential rain every day, we have come to accept the fiamma sunshade is not ideal for NI weather! The clue is in the name - SUNSHADE!!

You may find the awning slot on your Fiamma is too small for the Kampa, think they are 6mm and you need 8mm

Bought one for my daughter, then had to buy an adaptor, not the end of the world and might only have applied to an older Fiamma

We have had 2 Kampa Air awnings, they were good, we have now moved onto a full safari room, not for everyone and even more expensive, but really good

Thank you very much David, I’ll have to check that and see the size of the awning rail. The wind caught the fiamma last week and broke a leg so when it’s off to the repair shop next week I’ll get them to check that for me. Thanks for that advice.

The Kampa motor awnings come with both sizes of bead attached so can be used on a Fiamma awning, however if you buy a normal Kampa awning as we did then it comes with the larger bead only.
We bought the cheaper Kampa rally awning which is sold as a caravan one but pulled out the larger bead and pushed in the smaller one which I had pulled out of an old awning.
If you use a Kampa awning in the sun or Spain in Winter they do not last 10 years.

That’s a good move by Kampa, must be a fairly new thing , neither of ours had it, or the used one I bought for daughter and that wasn’t very old

But if OP buys new they should be OK

But used ones go for about half price so tempting

I think the Fiamma takes a 4 mm bead, but we use a drive away awning kit (4mm to 6mm kador strip and figure of 8 connectors). we just got an Outdoor Revolution T4 driveaway awning, only used it once so far so hard to give it a full review yet thought it was pretty easy to put up, was the new 2019 model at about £900 including internal 4 berth sleep pods and an extra footprint groundsheet as we sometimes use stone pitches. I think you can get the 2018 model for around the £500 mark.

edit: forgot to say the T4 has both 6 and 4 mm beads but as said before we prefer to use the drive away kit for ease of use.

Depending on the outcome of discussions with our credit card company tomorrow I might have a Vango Hexaway <Broken link removed>

As it doesn't fit our low profile Hymer, but would fit your van, if the credit card company won't refund me I'll be flogging it on for £350. Been used once.

Are you looking for the type that you can drive away from and leave standing on your pitch while you’re out for the day ? I use such a Kampa Air awning and it’s great. It’s fairly small, but that is all I need. Quick and easy to put up single handed and a doddle to release and reconnect to my Fiamma sun canopy.

We bought our Kampa Air from Mr DuxDeluxe and have to say it is the best we have ever owned, very easy put up and even easier to take down, very light inside.
Stores easy enough not having those metal poles, looks good and fits great onto our Thule sun canopy.

I have a 390L advertised if interested, thanks

I think we are sold on all the Kampa Air positive reviews. We were tempted with a drive away awning but were in two minds. Thank everyone so much for your helpful replies, the ease of erection (?) is an important factor so it sounds ideal. I will just have to get himself to sell his body. Again.

Jff - just looking to learn.
? our new to us 13yo motorhome has a Fiamma f45 ti.
What’s wrong with it?
What would we gain by changing?

edit: after using bing, Is it three sides built in rather than a roof + add-ons? ?

I'm a fan of the outdoor revolution offerings. Recently bought a T2 hiline airbeam. Use with kador strip and figure of 8 on the fiamma. £500 new. We also have a 6m long Outdoor rev airbeam, but now too heavey and large but a loline used on the bongo (perfect pairing).
Recently I've added a c/p rail below the fiamma to mount directly to.

Hi this is currently for sale on e bay might just be what you are looking for, check the height will fit your Motorhome.

I have a movelite T2, drive away air awning (think it may be outdoor revolution?), great when it worked - but Blue diamond via Glossop caravans couldn't supply spare parts when I discovered the roof beam had a manufacturing fault and wouldn't hold air! Make sure you can get spare parts. Driveaways work best on flat sided vehicles, OK on PVC but draughty.

Hi. I have had both Kampa Motor Rally Pro, Air and poled awnings. A 330 and 260 respectavely both size L which ultimately I ended up selling with the motorhomes.
The Kampa Motor Rallys come with both the 4mm & 6mm Keder beading sewing in.
Dependant on the windout canopy or awning rail fitted to your van one of those beadings will fit, ie Fiamma, Thule, Omnistar.
Check the kampa site it gives the height size fittings. S 235-250 CM Height, L 250-265 H, Xl 265-280 H and so on in 15cm increments. Lengths come in 260, 330, 390 and larger.
Having used both air and poled awnings my thoughts are the Poled awning is more robust than the air in higher winds, does take a little bit longer to set up though. And cheaper.
The air is smarter and quicker to set up, if short on storage there is no carrying poles about.
The Pro models have the heavier duty canvas style fabric. For poled awnings you can get the Pro or lightweight nylon type material.
You also need to check the gap size between top of habitation door and rail height particularly on air awnings in case the centre air beam interferes with the door, again Kampa site gives the clearances.
I have been shopping again for a Rally Pro 260L new or 2nd hand. Some of the 2nd hand prices are unreal quoting the price they have paid new.
I can get a new motor Rally Pro 260L air pro on ebay delivered for £599, larger Xl, XXl and longer ones around same if not cheaper.
Kampa definately get my vote, for build quality, longevity, and accessories that can go with them and they look a lot better than most other ones.
Next time on a site look around someone always has one pitched somewhere.
Happy shopping.

Kampa have their own eBay shop I believe and sometimes list their ex demos on there as an auction.
I bought mine on eBay brand new but display model but with guarantee.
I think I ended up paying half the normal price and seem to recall it was December when I bought it, so not sure if that’s when they sell off their stock or if they do it year round.
Mine fits my 5m awning cassette and is the xxl so one of the biggest.
I can put it up on my own but it is heavy.
Last year,I noticed that where the sides sit against the Motorhome side, wind and rain can get through so it’s not as good as a safari room.
However, I’d have no issues in leaving it up during high winds as it just flexes with the wind where as the safari room I’d be worried about the awning canopy.
Keep an eye on eBay you may pickup a bargain

Another vote for Kampa Motor Air Pro, simple and quick to put up, lightening fast to take down. We love ours.

Will do, great advice! I'm useless on forums and don't know how to reply individually. So GAVLAD, thanks so much for the recommendation for ebay, brilliant idea and Euro 330, you're a star!

Brilliant everyone, thank you all so much! it is definitely going to be the Kampa Air Grande 390. But your suggestions have all been checked out and considered so thank you very much!! We are still novices even though we have been playing at it for years so thought we should consult you, the experts!

I hate to appear pedantic but I believe the “Kampa Air Grande 390” that you quoted is for caravans, it needs to be a Kampa MOTOR Grande Air 390 for a motorhome. I’d hate you to buy the wrong one, I did it buying an XL rather than L and it was too tall for my MH.
