We have reached a decision to upgrade our wifi, with up coming trips abroad in the sticks. Momentarily we use a tp link 7350, not to bad, but it can loose signal fairly easy round trees. I have allocated a 300-350 quid max budget for a up to date and future lasting solution. Did a bit of research and I’m torn between the Maxview roam as a package, or nighthawk m1 with a poynting mimo v2 from Solwise. The maxview comes in at £300 ish and the m1 plus mimo about £350 ish. The advantage of the maxview is, it can work as wifi extender and use wifi signal if present. The maxview has a max 5db gain, the poynting has 2,5db in the low frequency, and 5,5db in the high frequency. We will be using 50-80gb a month with a firestick , tablets and phones. If you would be in my position, what would you choose and why? Thank you all.

We’ve got the Motorhome Wifi fitted.

We’ve stayed in places where our phones have no signals, but only had the MiFi drop out twice. Up and running again within a minute or two.

We use it to watch tv / Netflix through our iPads.

The system costs £299 I think. Data usage abroad is usually capped so you need to read the small print of whatever company you go with. However, not done this ourselves yet, but you can buy a local PAYG data sim for whatever country you are in and use that in the router. (y)

I believe the WiFi extender just uses an internal aerial but check as I might be wrong. Pretty pointless if it does.

Motorhome WiFi for us. I did get my hands on an all singing mobile data router, it was so complex I stuck with the original setup. It could even increase bandwidth with quad SIM ports, a bit of overkill with one SIM.

Currently on an unlimited SIM from Lebara mobile, £25 a month with no minimum contract.

Only other thing would be to make sure your phone and WiFi are different networks. We used to have all of them on Three, no Three signal, no internet. At least we now have 2 chances.

We used Motorhome WiFi as well.
A very good company, and they can fit it on your drive anywhere in England
It uses an external Ariel and they are currently recommending a £10 per month package from '3'
The system is 5G compatible (however it may be years before 5G is rolled out in rural areas where campsites tend to be)

We found that in our regular site in Cornwall, which has irregular borderline mobile connection at best, it makes no difference having the booster on the roof, if there is next to no signal it does not work, whatever network you are on (we had EE, 3 and Vodafone)

Thank you guys, I will have to look at Motorhome wifi as well.

The Poynting equipment is very good the 3- V2-15 is one of the versions with wifi aerials, shop around you can get better prices than Solwise.
I don't really think it's worth the extra cost of wifi as we rarely use wifi to connect now days.

Broken Link Removed

Thank you Lenny, we also don’t really connect to wifi, in fact never did. I just use our own. The antenna linked is impressive, found it a bit cheaper at Amazon. I’m inclined now with the poynting and nighthawk m1. Need to find out if all are sma, don’t wanna get it wrong.

We were going to go with Motorhome Wifi but the price the dealer was charging for fitting was a shall we say a bit extreme.
We did not want to risk other workshops drilling holes in the roof that may cause problems with the warranty in the future we looked at other options.
So we went with the nighthawk M2 on its own with a vodaphone sim.
So far it has worked perfectly in 9 out of 10 sites.

We will see how it goes and have the option to add an an Aerial later on if required but so far are very happy with it.

We've been getting on really well tethering off the phone, using a firestick for TV watched every match and F1 on it in Spain and Portugal, althougj only 5 weeks so far so wondering when we will butt up against fair use restrictions.

We're using Sky mobile (o2) which banks our unused data throughout the year and allows us to transfer it to use now.

The maxview has a max 5db gain, the poynting has 2,5db in the low frequency, and 5,5db in the high frequency.
The Maxview antenna also has a gain of 2.5dBi in the low frequency band, with 5.0dBi in the high frequency band. One thing to consider is that the Poynting antenna is 5G-ready, in that it has bits that will pick up the even higher frequency band that can be used with 5G. It's easy to swap a router, but a bit of a pain to swap an antenna glued and sealed to the roof.

Avtex have a new mobile wifi system 5G ready £349.00.

I posted a topic on installing one in the MH, but in the end went for Huawei 5577, as from feedback some routers are not 5G and would need replacing and put me off spending £300+, on something that isn't future proof (to me anyway)

The Avtek didn't work with my mobile (IOS) but with the 5577 worked first time with no issues

Just had a look on their website, thanks for the link.
Why do they not show their prices though? Rather odd to offer products for sale without a price (makes me think theres a "silly enough to pay it price" and "a real price for those that know")?

Also, can you tell me if the Motorhome WiFi has a LAN network port on it please (their website really is pretty useless for both info and prices).
I'm thinking of going with a Netgear M2 from what ive seen so far.

I don't know anything about the Nighthawk but these days I tend to avoid Netgear stuff like the plague. Many years ago I had a part time business setting up internet & VPN links between offices for small businesses originally with ISDN & then Broadband. I used to use Netgear routers a lot and they were good. More recently I have not been impressed with them I found they often fail and the wifi is very flakey on them, I use a TP link at home now.

In the van I have a Huawei Mifi works well but if I was to upgrade I would probably get a Teltonika.

I have considered many options, including avtex, the 5G ready will be a bonus for the antenna. Thanks Autorouter, makes sense. I might have a look at tp link archer as well. The poynting v3 is in the bag.

I wouldn't worry about 5G, I doubt if 5G will ever be rolled out to rural areas, the high frequency bandwidth it uses would require far too many masts to give any sort of useable coverage.
Unless you like camping in big urban areas then it might be worth it.
For Motorhome use the gain in the 800mhz bandwidth is the important bit as that's the bandwidth they use in rural areas.

3 clicks on their website and I had chosen a system, and got the price. 🤷‍♂️

Another click or two who find me a local installer. Technical specifications easy to find as well.

I have no connect to the company, other than buying one of their systems.(y)

Are you considering the avtex without a firestick?

Ive bought several 'smart' TVs over the years and always end up putting a firestick on because they stop supporting elements and you end up with wuntu ( whatever that is) instead of Itv hub etc

I was referring to the avtex wifi package offering. The tv is a supermarket (Real) item bought in Germany. And have a firestick.

You need to select a product to see the price. Not all products are available for on-line purchase.

A bit late on parade  Got my Antenna from Netxl , I choose not to have the WFi or GPS

Which teltonica model?

Domino-fi works really well. If that fails swmbo insists we switch to wi-chess. Minimal set up costs and no running costs. 100% coverage and no temp signal loss.

This Motorhome WiFi system @£299.99 suits just fine. I have this, self installed, dead easy and I run a couple of phones, a Firestick, Avtex smart TV and a Laptop - I've not found anything this bundle can't do for me in terms of work and play. I have an Amazon and Netflix subscription and a £16 unlimited Smarty SIM (I'll find the code that gives you a free month...)

If you really need a small business type network or Ethernet in the van, then Motorhome WiFi do the next level up that would benefit as would some of the other suggestions.

We have just fitted onboard Wi-fi with a pointing puck 5 from Net XL and a Huawei E5785LH, we have a smarty sim with unlimited data at £18 a month.
looked at getting the RUT from teltonika but having a portable mifi means I can take it out of the van while out and about/ piggyback off Wi-fi hotspots between our devices and not have to enter loads of passwords. I didn’t have a huge budget to throw at it, if you’re wanting speed then the Nighthawk looks good

We had the Motorhome WiFi 4g flex fitted yesterday - I had it fitted professionally due to crippling incompetence.

The mobile installers took just under an hour, really neat job and they set everything up and checked it before they left.

I can’t comment on performance on site, but it’s on the far side of the drive and I can connect to it from the back of the house, so the router has good WiFi range. Speedtest shows a solid 30mbps download, 15 upload.

I started with the unlimited Smarty sim that came with it £18 per month, we’ll change if it looks like we’re not getting good coverage or value for money.

I do all my work remotely anyway, so I’m thinking work from the van!

We have the same system and would echo your comments, but add that it also will repeat an external wifi picking t up from the roof mounted aerial which also gets the cellular signal.

Didn’t know that - I’ll have to actually read the instructions 😡
