We are looking at the above does anybody know of a better option 🙂

Get a Smarty monthly SIM card, then you can switch it on and off and it will probably save you money.

Recently used my phone in Spain with SMARTY sim and tethered without a problem. If using abroad check roaming cap.

This is two questions in one. The mobile wifi device (mifi) is probably a re-badged Huawei mifi, with an internal battery, and can be kept in your pocket/rucksack while walking around. It will pick up the phone signal just the same as your phone. If you are installing it in a MH then try to position it where sheet metal won't block the signal too much.

The mifi sets up a local wifi network just like the one from your router at home. You can connect laptops etc, and you can also connect your smartphone to its wifi so that any data usage comes from the mifi not the phone data allowance.

You can use any SIM in that mifi, so once you've bought it you can use the sim until it runs out, then buy another SIM if you find one that's better value. Outside the UK for example, a local SIM is often cheaper.

So would you say the Miri I showed in link is a decent buy?

This mifi will be locked to the EE network, so you will not be able to use any other sim unless you can get it unlocked. Have you checked that you have an ee signal where you intend to travel. The unit its self looks like a Huawei unit. Plenty of reviews online.

Well we only travel in UK and EE works well in most areas we have been via mobile but I'd prefer the option of using a different SIM if needed. I'll check out the Huawei option that's mentioned. Cheers Mark

You really need a huawei that has the external antenna plugs so that you can the fit a decent antenna on your van

We've been using 3 data sims in our Huawei mifi unit\s at a cost of around £45 for 24 Gb \ 24 months validity however have just loaded an EE 120Gb card into the unit for our next trip away as we're using a bit more data now.

If you do go for a Huawei unit (which should be unlocked) the EE sim is £50 Broken Link Removed so you're paying £40 for the EE dongle.

Do you have a product no or link to the Haweui Mifi you are using, also does it have an integral antenna? Cheers Mark

None of them are locked nowadays, that practice was stopped a good few years ago, same with phones.

Apologies for delay in response but been travelling.

We've had three or four models and our current one is an e5577C-s. Unfortunately, this seems to be discontinued and not sure on what model, if any, has replaced it.
Maybe your question is incorrectly worded as all Huawei mifi units have an internal aerial however only some models have external antenna connections. Our e5577s does (the C means it has the larger battery) as does our previous model e5573s however our much older e5531 doesn't. Think the "s" means it has antenna connections.

I have used many different models of MiFi and been pretty disappointed mostly other than the 5577c with external aerial ports. Now I have a 3 home broadband router with an aerial on the roof it's a Huawei 535 and I run it off a stabilised 12v supply lead. I use it to stream video to my TV on Firestick
