All the gear, and no idea!
I am going to fit some guards on the mirrors, it seems Mirrorguard are quite a bit more expensive than others, why is this? Are they that much better??

Mirrorguard ones are much better and will take a knock as I have found out

Can't comment on the Milencos but I've clashed wing mirrors a few times, the last time left a small crack in my mirrorguard but I don't think there was much left of the VW campers. I was more surprised that they were at the same level, the bottom of mine must have hit the top of the other vans. So a thumbs up for mirrorguard's (y)

Another vote for for mirrorguards.

Check out the thickness of the Milenco ones, compared with Mirror guard. There is no comparison, like most things made by Milenco including their ramps, wheel jacks, they are Cr@P.

Agree Mirrorguards far superior. Milenco's are just a pretty cover.

Just to be different, I like the Milenco protectors. :)

Easy to fit securely, lightweight and won't crack. Good value for money too.

I had them on our long-reach mirrors on the coach-built, and purchased another set for the short-reach mirrors on our current van conversion. (y)

Mirrorguard for mje.. Lost count of the times they have been clouted either by me of oncoming motors.. Still look like new
I did look at the Milenco ones, but as been said, they look and feel no more than a pretty cover, and have no where near the substance of the Mirrorguard ones

I can't comment either way. Our MH has got mirrorguatds because they were on when we bought it. They remain untested but do seem well made.

Mirrorguards on ours but not been tested as yet(y) (well not until the next time out now!).

I agree, and they're half the price, at least they were when I bought them 2 or 3 years ago, and saved me damage a couple of times. My only criticism is that you can't fully fold back the mirrors to the window. (PVC short arm). I've come to the conclusion that some people like to pay more for things on the basis they should be better.

Ummmm.. So the fact that the Milenco ones are plastic while the Mirrorguard are good quality glass fibre, and that you say the Milenco ones stop the mirrors being folded right in does not come into it then ??
Well you still have one foot not shot at any way :-)

Just being unbiased and quoting the downside. I'm still happy with the purchase, as others are for paying more. Yer pays yer money ....

The Mirrorguard ones are pricey but I have to say are a quality item - having just bought some myself. The Milenco ones are a lot thinner and I'm sure won't take the impacts that the Mirrorguard ones will survive - but they will of course offer some protection and will make the mirrors more visible to oncoming traffic, so long as you don't buy black!

As above, yer pays yer money...... you get what you pay for here.

I was like yourself a couple of weeks ago not sure which to buy I took the advice of the funsters and payed the extra cost and glad I did when they arrived I was really pleased with the quality so my vote is for mirror guard.

Another vote for Milenco's. Half the price. Never seen a engineers report as to the merits of either surviving a fixed measured impact.
I've viewed Milenco's and Mirrorguards side by side. Perhaps I saw a bad Mirrorguard and a good Milenco, but for me there was no or very little difference in thickness. I'm a retired engineer. I've worked with GRP (kayak's, surfboard's etc) and know about high impact ABS plastic. There is very little difference in impact survivability.

My thoughts too.

Mirrorguards for me. If you see Mirrorguad and Milenco or some of the other cheaper brands side by side you will see why Mirrorguards are more expensive. As someone said earlier. Mirrorguards protect your mirrors, Milenco are just pretty covers. Mirrorguards have padding a bit like a motorcycle helmet. The others don't.

For an alternative view; I have always found mirror protection an interesting engineering conundrum. If Fiat has designed the mirror structures for appropriate dynamic impact loading they should fold back and protect the mirror structure in the event of a minor collision.
If additional mirror protectors were to be added they should be designed to increase the IMPACT load protection. It is possible that very rigid protectors would not improve resistance to dynamic impact loading whereas thinner more flexible protectors may be better? An example could be car bumpers; rigid bumpers transfer the load straight into the car stucture whereas flexible modern bumpers are designed to absorb the impact of a collision and protect the car.
Without doing comparative destructive testing or very complex structural design analysis it would be difficult to know what sort of mirror protectors to fit and indeed whether they actually help.
As an observation; I haven’t seen any commercial Fiat vans fitted with mirror protectors so I have come to the conclusion that they could be just cosmetic?
Therefore I have decided not to fit mirror protectors to my Ducato PVC which by Sod’s Law means I’ll be searching the Internet next week for replacement mirrors.

Very good post. People with Mirrorguards always state how tightly they fit to the point many people ask are they doing something wrong as they need so much effort to push on and of course remove.

Mirrorguards do actually work , came out of a Toll booth in Spain and a Artic came out of another booth hit my N/S mirror right forward The Guard saved my mirror, only damage to Guard a tiny hairline crack.

We have been selling a lot of these at shows and ebay, they are the same as the milenco. We have had great feedback and I have fitted a few pairs for people, they are a nive fit and look good.
