Why does my tracker show my vans mileage at 16944 yet this van was delivered ( Brand new ) with 504 miles on the clock and now has covered15420 according to the speedo. When the van was delivered to us it was found to have badly repaired accident damage which no one knew anything about. It was bought (new) by me Sept 2019

Please this is about the mileage query only.

Tracker is doing it via GPS so unless you always drive on dead straight roads there will always be some difference.

I wouldn't expect quite that much but probably depends on the tracker. I have self fitted Rewire tracker and on a trip of
2000 or 3000 miles its fairly close to to odometer but not a clue what it's like overall as I don't know at what mileage I fitted it.

The ecu may have yet another mileage, the dealer did have the facility to reset delivery milage

Forgive me if this is a stupid thought but would a long ferry trip record the distance travelled on the tracker?

It would still work I would have thought, depends how it’s set up.
We use Verison (used to be fleetmatics).
When our lorries move our plant around at work from site to site the tracker even shows that the piece of plant is being moved even though the engine isn’t running.
We get an alert so we can check that it’s supposed to be moving.
For our entire fleet of vehicles It shows red if parked, orange when engine running and stationary , green when moving and blue when being transported.
We can do a report of where, when and what speed with mapping,
Good to see which burger van the drivers are stopped at.

I think the tracker will record mileage even without engine running. Metatrack always ring me when we are on the ferry or through the tunnel as they can see the vehicle moving, to check we are with the vehicle.
