Midges in the West of Scotland

hi Funsters.. we are going up to the Highlands, Fort William and Skye from Monday 8th and was wondering how bad the midgees are currently?? I’ve looked on the Smidge forecast and for some reason it has now ceased and won’t be available again til the spring?? So if you’re up there and suffering, please let me know :)
Hi,
Im up at Bunree Caravan and Camping club site ....not a midge in site. Its a few miles south of Fort William

Are you on pitch 86/87ish?
If so, just noticed your Funster sticker as we were leaving early doors yesterday morning.

We were further round on one of the shore front pitches.

Now over on Skye then heading further north.

It's just been thundering down so hard in Skye it was impacting the satellite TV signal!

Was in the Netherlans over the summer and got destroyed over the course of several evenings and nights(hunting the little fuxkers around the camper at 2,3 and 4am kind of destroyed) until we bought some Deet 40%. It's available in Boots I believe amoung other places and wow...lasts many many hours and is phenomenally effective. When I got home I happened upon an article about hyperthermia treatment for bites and did some research and ended up buying a device that plugs into my phone for €30 - https://heatit.de/en Haven't had the oppurtunity to try it yet but appearently it works the same as the age old approach of a hot spoon on the bite but with a bit more reproducibility! You could say I'm itching to get bitten to try it out!!

Fort William a couple of days ago, billions of the blighters!

I had to go full head net, long trousers tucked into socks, and winter gloves on.

A couple of people in our party who thought they could brave them for five minutes ended up next day looking like spotty teenagers with chicken pox
Oh no that’s terrible 😞

I've found the midges in the SW of Scotland! They were hiding in a Romane lettuce, loads of them! No doubt trying to do a 'Trojan horse' invasion but they failed as the lettuce was in the fridge so most had died and the rest got drowned when I put the lettuce in soak! 😆

You Wimp!

Only Freezing them and then drowning them!
Personally I'd have hung, drawn and quartered each individual one, and then thrown them to the Lions!

I didn't actually find the little s*ds until I took some leaves off the lettuce for lunch by which time it was too late for any torture I may have wanted to carry out. 😄

Hi we have a house in the Highlands between Fortwilliam and Skye, I can confirm it’s very unlikely that you will have any midges especially the females that bite. We avoid going from the beginning of June to the end of August. It’s a great time now to travel so have fun
