We are looking for a lightweight small microwave to keep in the garage of our motor home which doesnt have one built in. Do any funsters have a model that they would recommend? I would prefer a digital model as opposed to a manual one. Thank you!

A guaranteed way to give a reliable piece of electrical equipment the kiss of death is to recommend it. But we have a tesco own brand microwave in the van that we acquired with a previous van. does what it says on the tin, is lightweight and stupidly reliable. I would prefer one in stainless steel or black, but refuse to buy another without reason, this one is white

We just bought a cheap one from Tesco.

£25 one from Asda 6 years ago low wattage, put it in my garage, still going strong.

A 700w microwave, great for usage in a caravan or motorhome at the campsite.

The low wattage means you won't have to worry about overloading the power hook-up unit on the site!

Features:

  • Simple dial operation with 5 power levels
  • 35 minute maximum timer with thaw function
  • 24.5cm turntable
  • 20 litre capacity

The microwave runs on pure sine waves.

The microwave dimensions are -

17 and a quarter inches wide.

13 inches deep.

9 and a half inches high.

You don't say if you intend to use an inverter or not. Some may not work off basic inverters, particularly if digital.
I'd go for one without a turntable to avoid the rattle and gain extra cooking space. These will be more expensive, however. If cost is a criteria, get the cheapest you can find and then it'll be cheaper to replace. Delicate items may not enjoy being tossed about at the back of a moho, so make sure it's secure.

Mine came with the van a Samsung Junior (don't know if still available? Johns_Cross_Motorhomes ?) small compact and works well off the inverter

Thank you everyone for your help much appreciated

Just make sure you have a good inverter, we use ours on ehu and for 2,3 mins thru our inverter, 700 watt with a 1500 watt inverter. Was in the van already but have retrofitted previously, ex tesco cheapo
