Getting better
Hello. I have a microwave in the MH and this stands in the space where the grill above the fridge used to be. There is always a draft from the vents behind it. Is it ok/safe to place a piece of polystyrene behind the microwave (there is a gap between the vent and microwave, so the polystyrene would not actually touch the microwave) to block the draft? Thanks

As long as the vents were for the oven and not the fridge below and as long as you are not blocking the microwave ventilation it should be OK.

Many thanks Martin, I'll double check before trying.

Is the Microwave a Retrofit?. ie say, you have replaced a gas oven or something?. Generally vents have a purpose?. Often to supply, combustion or cooling air. blanking or restricting, can cause issues.

Yes, the microwave is in the space provided by removing the original grill. The microwave is restrained but not fixed so can be unplugged and taken out any time.

Our microwave is also fitted like that BUT it is an original fitting complete with that the large round vent but our problem with the vent is not the draught but parking too close to a tree and getting ants crawling down the branch and into the vent and therefore the motorhome

you should not restrict airflow to the microwave, but I would fill gaps around the front fascia of the microwave with strips of urethane based foam. the stuff used for yoga mats will not be affected by radiated heat, where polystyrene will
