The Motor Home goes into Fiat tomorrow for a week to get the gear box fixed. What do most people do? Empty all there contents or leave things as is.
I have taken all the wine out, could be too tempting. but I plan on leaving everything else in there. I shall just shut off the gas bottles and drain the tanks.
Can't be bothered to empty things like BBQ stuff, table, chairs loungers tin food, tools etc.
What do most people do?

One year. A whole one!
Mine was away for a month with a local specialist and it didn't even occur to me to empty mine out.

If I had, it would have taken me the best part of a day.

However, I can (but didn't) lock the garage area with one key and lock my habitation door with another if I so wish to. Give the dealer chap the door and ignition key and leave everything else locked away. That's if you're able to do that?

I think I'd be inclined to do the same. As long as it wouldn't interfere with what was being done (and I can't see it doing so for a gear box)

I'm feeling lazy so I will leave as is. Just shut of the gas and drain the tanks and remove all the wine.

Have never removed anything from any of our vans in the time we have been m/homing when it goes in garage for service/repairs/etc

If you can't trust the jokers working on your vehicle, don't go there.

I only go through the pain of emptying it for the habitation service. I only remove any shiny trinkets from the dash if going to the Fiat dealership, everything else stays in.

No need to remove stuff but from experience don't leave anything in that you value just to be safe, not because the people at the place can't be trusted but because it's not impossible for there to be miscreants lurking around who might 'nip in' when the staff have their backs turned. Just not worth the aggro or worry, so I'd remove 'loose' stuff like sat nav, tablets and anything else that's easily nickable and keep it at home.

Also take some photos of the inside and outside before it goes in to show the condition of your vehicle as sometimes they can be damaged and it's hard to prove that it wasn't done before you took it in. We had a car go in for repair as we'd been run into (on the side) by someone reversing, they kept it for a few days and did a good job of the repair but we noticed that some idiot had scuffed the paint on the opposite side and it also had some paint on it that wasn't there originally as it was a different colour ... someone had obviously been spraying another vehicle nearby and not protected ours. It was put right without question but it was annoying.

We also once took a car in for some work and when we went to collect it hubby noticed that some of his tools had been removed from the boot, fortunately we hadn't left the garage at that point and the owner found the culprit (one of his staff) and we got it all back ... not sure what happened to the s*d though.

We left our MH at our trusted local garage for a couple of nights: went to pick it up only to find it standing on the side of the road, unlocked :(.

Didn't find anything obviously missing but when we went to bed that night it "smelled". All the sheets were washed, the mattress was vacuumed and aired, the pillows were replaced (n). Fortunately, we were staying on the drive of a family member and we were able to scrounge a bed and the use of a washing machine. It all left a nasty taste in the throat .

Had the garage staff used it for "relaxing"? Had the garage owner (who we later discovered was having financial difficulties and had been kicked out by his wife) found it more comfortable than the office couch? Had some oik got in and abused our pride and joy? Needless to say, we never graced that establishment again .

Suffice it to say that we are loath to leave our van in anyone else's care overnight. I hope yours will be alright and I'm sure that it is likely to be so (y).

Sorry for putting a degree of doubt in your mind - Gordon.

We've never taken anything out. As well as leaving it for the usual servicing our vehicle was collected and returned (450 miles round trip) twice by dealership's driver and left with them for over a week each time. Nothing was damaged or stolen.

I remove selected items, only leaving things that could be replaced if they disappear. I'm sure that the garage would not reimburse for theft and I'm not going to bother my insurance.

If you have read 'Valleysboy's experience of having his Hymer stolen from a garage and torched, so that he lost the MH - plus all contents, then you might want to consider where the garage will park the MH; whether in a secure location or on an open forecourt.

I have left out MH at our servicing garage overnight with everything inside, but they have a strong high metal fence and it is parked inside that, so I have little worries.

I would hate to have the loss of the contents on top of the MH if stolen - apart from the value, the hassle of replacing them would be enormous.

Also check the insurance cover would give you enough compensation.

Having considered those points make your own decision.

My advice, from the other side of the fence if you like, would be empty it out. Ok as it's the gearbox being done your belongings in the living area aren't going to affect the job but if anything bad happened, accident, theft of or from the motorhome etc it means less stuff to get damaged/stolen/need replacing. When a motorhome is in for habitation work, whether it be for a hab inspection or repairs it makes life a lot easier for the tech doing the job.

Also check where it will be parked overnight, my business insurance only covers vehicles overnight if they are kept inside the workshop. It's also worth asking if all your goods inside the motorhome are covered on insurance.

The job has been done and I left everything in it other than things like the wife's underwear etc. No problems what so ever.
