I’m a newbie
Being the owner of my first motorhome having a full mechanical and habitation check when I purchased it back in September 1920 with 3000 miles on the clock. It has now done 5000 miles on the clock sadly because of covid restrictions. Am i right in thinking that the estimate of £600+ for mechanical and habitation is a high price to pay ?? .ICan see the point of a hab check, but a mechanical check is it really needed after only 2000 miles. All so does it have to be done every year .your feedback is much appreciated many thanks

£600 is way OTT.

Didn't read the post correctly see my post below.

Hi Rover1
Sorry to confirm that £600 for both hab check & mechanical service seems about right, I know its a bitter pill to swallow, as like most we have only manged a few hundred miles since our last service due to lock downs etc.
Our vans MOT is due, as is its "Major" service, like oil change, all filters, oil, air, pollen and fuel filter, plus brake fluid change. I have been quoted £440 plus the MOT which I think is around £70, even though we haven't done a thousand miles since the last oil service, due to Covid restrictions.
We have had the hab checks done each year to maintain the vans warranty, but as its now out of the 3 year warranty, I believe its only a damp check that's needed to maintain the 10 year ingress warranty. How they use a damp meter on an aluminium inner & outer skinned van always amazes me.
To be honest, I am still thinking about carrying out the oil service myself, the synthetic oil is expensive (7ltrs needed) but the filters are not, and are easily available.
Decisions, decisions eh?

Forget that missed the bit about Mechanical service so £600 is probably about right if using a main dealer. For a mechanical service, I use an independent, approx £130 for a light service & £260 for a full service. Just had a light service plus brake fluid change cost £180.

Surely if you have done minimal milage then only the oil and oil filter need changing. The air and pollen filters will still be almost new as not much air will have passed through them.

Are you using Lancing Commercial Lenny?, or did you find somewhere else local to you?

Depends if under the manufacturers warranty or not. If it's a Fiat then it's 2 years so that means an annual service until year 3 regardless of mileage and a van not is use can do it more harm than good. If you have a 5 year warranty for the conversion then it's a hab check, gas check & damp check every year until year 6. Gas & Damp are usually charged separately.

Our motorhome is only 14 months old but had a service and all of the habitation checks done this year and have booked next years already.

Lancing Commercial, only 1½ miles from me.
We booked there for an MOT on our last Hymer about 4 years ago they apologized when we arrived as they couldn’t get it into the workshops. Actually told them the size when I booked. With satellite dish (in the retracted position!) 3.1m h. Maybe they have changed their workshops?

They can't do Mot's over 3.5t as they only have an MOT licence for the ramp/lift not the pit.
