Went to Ashboune this morning and going through Mayfield called in at shop at top of hill that joins main Ashbourne to Leek rd. Noticed a 16 pack of toilet paper (£7 in s/markets ) soon put it back when he said £11.60 ? No wonder small shops are suffering with people like that! I know they are a bit dearer but ???

On the way home aftre dropping daughter off
Came past a fella selling toilet rolls( singally)
Parked In a lay buy £3.00 a roll
he had a mondeo bootfull

Over charging is illegal whether the person buying agrees to the price or not, over charging is over charging.

Trading standards are asking people locally to report shops that are doing it.

I thought that you could offer an item for sale at a price and it was up to the buyer to accept or reject. Who sets the price? just paid extra 50p for a 3 pints of milk. Glad to get it.

Sign of the times I'm afraid, but customers will remember what the small shops are doing, and they won't return when normality returns, but they will tell others and the shop due to greed may pay the ultimate price.

It may be an idea to point out to any shop keepers when or if this happens to any of us, that the charge is unreasonable, and if not reduced to a more agreeable price then you will have no other option but to inform others and they may well lose future business as a result.

No funnies, just fact.

Always was a dear shop, but has he had to pay more to get them, maybe, always another side.

Possibly Chaser, possibly, but he could have bought from a car parked in a lay by selling them off cheap like if you know what I mean, (nod - wink)

I wash my hands of this thread! Oops no soap!

He needs reporting to the council for trading without a licence.?

Yes Gwaygway but in the old days wc cisterns held much more water and thus were more likely to flush away material ( such as newspaper) that didn’t disintergrate as readily as toilet paper. Modern cisterns hold much less water and would struggle to flush away amounts of newspaper which could lead to blockages.
May be true about snowflakes’ bottoms too being more delicate!
