Boxer L4H2 van build

1. Does the Maxxfax come with a fly screen?
2. If not is a fly screen available for it?
3. I've watched a few videos on the maxxshade , it looks like it's build quality is garbage , anyone here been using it long term that can give their opinions on it.
4. Anyone know if it's possible to fabricate some way to use my existing Remis blind on the Maxxfan ?

Edit : I know the Remis blinds are just held in place using like several balled sockets , a bit like our shoulder joints , "ball into socket "

I’ve had 2 Maxxfans, fore and aft, for three years.
The build quality of the fans is fine, the accessory roller blind which is NOT a fly screen, covers less so. They are seperate accessories and have a built in LED as an option as well.

When drawn closed the blinds don’t allow much air to pass through the limited vent
Holes.

They do however nicely finish off the inside.

There are 3 colours of fan lids.
White is solid so let’s very little light pass through when closed.
Smoke allows a surprising amount through.
Clear is … clear.

Would I buy the fans and blinds again on the next van.

Most definitely yes.

The fan has a fly screen as standard and needs regular cleaning if using the fan on extract. The blind is rubbish. And next time will be white external cover and no blind. Someone on here did use their heki 400x400 blind but I fitted my unit to bathroom so didn’t try it.

Thanks Andy , if someone else made the Remis blind fit , that's good enough for me , I'll sort something out. :)
Interested to hear why you would choose white next time ? I was gonna get the smoked black one

Edit to my post above..

Apologies..

Landy Andy is quite correct it does have a built in fly screen, BUT the holes aren't sufficiently small to prevent midges, if you strayed up into the Highlands.

They’ll stop routine airborne stuff, but I made an insert using midge proof netting.

You can see the difference between ordinary Amazon type

fly screen net and the Scottish midge proof netting in this pic.

Because the blind is crap. Stops airflow but doesn’t stop the light. I don’t need the natural light where it is anyway. It isn’t clear it’s smoked. I want the airflow. It is poo to use operate and feels like it will fail any moment.
I have machined out the sides of my blind to improve airflow, but still not great. Unlike the fan it’s self which is brilliant. Especially now. It When it’s 36 degrees

Oldrat thanks for the update :) , does the finer mesh still let as much air flow through ? Suppose if it doesn't , as long as it stops the midges that's most important :)

I think I understand what you mean.
Between the three colours of the Maxxfan what one would you say blocks the most sunlight ? I take it your current one is the tinted one , and not the smoked ( black ) one

Greg Virgoe has a raft of YouTube videos about his self build, at least three relate to Maxxfans
Here’s the one about the different covers

When I’m Scotland ( and only then), I use a square of midge netting stretched across the fly screen otherwise the screen is sufficient.

There is no depreciable difference in airflow, and, as the fans are so quiet, if there was we’d just turn them up a notch.

Has anybody compared the Maxxfan to the fantastic vent?

We have an old endless breeze fan which I believe is the portable fantastic vent and its brilliant, I see they are now under the Dometic brand which is worrying.

I have the white one on order as it is for the bedroom area and that is the only one which blocks the light. The clear and smoked are both see through with different degrees of tint.

I have the “clear” which is smoke, but if buying again would go with white as would match the rest of the roof vents, and could always paint/cover the inside if too much light came through. I have not seen the black one in place so can’t comment on how dark that is.
When you remove the fitted fly screen the volume of moved air increases which you can tell audibly, so midge mesh would restrict more. But I suppose it could be overcome with increased fan speed. Rarely do we run ours any more than 50%, and run it each night at 30% which we then can’t hear it.
We are currently in France, mid to high 30s and the fan is brilliant. At night we shut every vent and window, just keeping the two windows that are by the beds open, with the Maxxfan on extract. We get constant cold fresh air drawn across us and the beds.
It’s amazing how much air it moves. If you have all windows and doors shut with fan extracting, then open a window or door you can really feel the air move and the fan audibly change tone as it moves the air.

Is the included insect screen easy to take off?

Yes, it has 4 stiff rotating clips that hold it, but being on the ceiling makes it a little more awkward.

I fitted the white one for two reasons, it’s above a bed but still lets light in sufficient for our need, but mainly to reflect solar energy in the day to keep the bed area cooler,
I have the blind with LEDs but so far haven’t needed to use it because the ambience light through the white cover is fine,
the LEDs work fine and are easier to operate when getting up or going to sleep than the original fitted bedroom switches, so they work well for us,

You can see the turn buckles on the round part that is the mesh

the blind that comes across is this blackout if you dont want to use it at night say but want it dark? i watched a video recently which suggested that the actual blind part was not blackout and let a lot of light in which may be by design.

I also have the shade as it’s above the bed. Easy to fit lights are fine. Looks a lot better. 👍🥃
