Carthago Malibu I500

Hi, has anyone on this forum got a Malibu i500? Only had mine a few weeks and cannot find the circuit breakers anywhere. Only thing is a box of electrics under the passenger seat called a Elekroblock and I cannot see a circuit breaker in there. It says in the manual it should be in the cupboard to the right of the hab-door but it isn’t in ours. It’s strange because the manual says I must switch of the circuit breaker just before I put it on hookup and then switch back on. Not sure how I can do this if I cannot find it. These Malibu are made by Carthago so maybe same electrics.

Carthago CB's use CBE not Elektroblocks.
I don't understand why you would need to switch off before hooking up, never heard of that before and I doubt if any other Malibu owners do.
Why not join the Carthago Owners Club a lot of knowledgable people there.

You could try phoning Todd’s Motorhomes. I believe they sell Malibu vans.

I am quite new to owning a Motorhome and do you not have to turn the circuit breaker of if it says so in the manual? Don’t want to really blow any fuses etc!
We had a autotrail before that and that’s what the salesman told us to do before we hooked it up as well and sure that was explained in the manual what came with it.
Do you have to be on Facebook to join Carthago forum? Afraid not on it.

Cheers tried Todds but they don’t know either!
They did say they would try and find out for me.

I don’t and never have turned off breakers before or after connecting to ehu. The only thing I do, is make sure the boiler is off and has had time to shut it’s self down before I pull the plug.

Andy.

You can join the club on its own website as linked above, but the technical discussions, etc. are in a closed Facebook group. As I won’t do Facebook I can’t use that facility but an email to the group via the website will get answers to specific questions.

I have never switched off anything before plugging in or unplugging the mains hookup.

We leave our circuit breakers as they are when connecting/disconnecting EHU, nothing bad has happened yet!
But, you need to find where the circuit breakers are in case you have a fault or one trips through overloading.
Common sense ( not always used in motorhome manufacture though,) says it will be close to the EHU point.
Is there anyway you can trace the mains cable from the EHU point? The main consumer unit must be somewhere easily accessible. Open every cupboard, drawer, locker and flap near the EHU point and see if you can get a clue as to where it might be.
Ours is under the sink cupboards, about a foot away from the hook up point.

My owner’s manual says to throw the breakers to ‘off’ before disconnecting/connecting EHU. I’ve had early-life failures of both main and auxiliary Schaudt chargers on my MH and now always do the bit with the breakers just in case there’s something in it.
