I have been travelling around Australia and for part of the time rented a Jayco Conquest Royal from Let’s Go https://www.letsgomotorhomes.com.au/
The van had only done 4,500 km so was almost brand new. The van had a mains water connection to bypass the tank, meaning great pressure water for shower and no limit to supply. Nearly all vans in Aus seems to have mains pressure supply and from research they seam to in US. My question is why don’t we have it in UK/Europe and has anyone retrofitted.

the other thing that was great was having instantaneous hot water so not waiting for the boiler to heat up again. When we are away we each shower in the van each day, never use site facilities, so showering is very important to us. Has anyone replaced the boiler on an Auto-Trail with an instantaneous one?

thanks for your help/opinions.

You can get some systems that autofill in the UK but they aren’t common. Mostly seen on caravans that use an external barrel.

The instant water you can get, Alde do a thing called a floe that means continuous hot water. It’s an eye watering price though.

Not sure why manufacturers don’t use an instantaneous heater, I am sure someone will have an answer though.

Water fittings/pipes used here are not good enough for mains pressure, they often fail at 30psi can you imagine the mess at 60psi...you can get pressure reducers but then that defeats the object of having mains water
There is at least one caravan manufacturer that fits an onboard tank with a float shut off to constantly fill from mains but still uses the usual on board pump

I'm sure someone asked about the water heaters on a gas thread

Our twenty year old Clou Liner has a citywater inlet, works fine on the rare occasion we're on a serviced pitch.

American RV. The one thing disconnected before we bought it by previous owner? The mains water inlet. Prone to leaks and I personally have zero requirement as the tank is massive anyway.
Full timing would be useful I guess.
I saw a DIY conversion with an instant hot water LPG boiler. Never seen one since. Are they heavy on gas????

Differant to what OP is asking.
As you say systems are available in UK but not for mains pressure.
The two I am aware of is a float system on an Aquaroll and connected to hose but still uses the vans internal pump to pump the water... the other one is the hose is connected directly to van via a reducer and therefore no pump needed but water pressure is restricted to same as what pump would supply.
Neither systems supply mains pressure water.

Ours was also available in UK and plenty of US stuff available here with it. But yes probably difficult to adapt a motorhome not designed for it.

I also think the lack of serviced pitches here is part of the reason, no good having the van set up for mains pressure on a regular pitch, or when wilding.

I assume for mains water you would need a supply to your pitch. Most UK campsites are not equipped.in this way. They will only have one water tap which you drive to fill up.
