Hi Funsters,

I'm looking to buy some cheap mirror covers for the motorhome, but I don't know if what I have is long arm or short arm, could someone tell me from this photo please ??

Yup, I think long too. :D

We've got short ones on our Globecar whilst the coachbuilt MH on the left of the picture has the longer ones like yours.

They look the same as mine and I would have said long arm, till I saw Dethleffs in France with mirror arms about 2 inches longer than mine.
Can you check the measurements with the seller?

I think the only difference in the mirror covers is that the short arms one have to have a wider aperture for the arms themselves as they are closer to the 'fat' shoulder end, whereas the longer mirrors have narrower arms.

With mirror guard fitted to long arm (for reference)

I know you like to be helpful Andy but taking the mirror off your MH just to take a photo is going a bit OTT!!!!

Long arm, but remember you can buy a new long arm mirror even a heated one on fleabay for about £115+ (there is one on now) So I just carry a spare (repaired) LH mirror around in Europe now.

The basic rule of thumb is short arm on panel vans and long arms on coachbuilt vans.

Does anyone have a link to where we can buy the short arm ones for a PVC please ? Sensible price if possible?

Thanks .

There are three sizes of arm, my 2009 Bessacarr on a Ducato base had Medium length arms, with the arm length roughly 7". Check the length of the arms before ordering replacements.
Cheers

What are the good or best makes of these protectors ? I can get Milenco ones in short arm for our van for 68 quid. Are these a quality make or are there better ones ?

Thanks.

How easy are these mirrors to fit? I need to replace mine but am worried about removing and refitting the internal door trim

Charlie
I would argue that short arms do not need protecting. Anyone coming that close will certainly be in more need of clean skiddies
I guess I'm just one of those that prefer to avoid having to mess about changing and sourcing a mirror while we're away in Europe.. The coin would give peace of mind if nothing else. But I'm not familiar with who makes them and how good they are.

Dead easy if you know what you're doing
Pitfalls are buying the wrong mirror. Many replacements on ebay do not have either radio aerial or outside temperature sensor (things to check)

MOST collisions involve long arm mirrors on both vehicles. You'd have to be seriously off track to hit short arm mirrors

For you its cheaper to carry a spare. Dirt cheap here. be careful not to buy a LHD mirror unless you are

Andy I can't argue with you logic.. But for 68 quid I can protect ( within reason) both mirrors.. I won't have to carry a spare and I won't end up with a pattern part on the van if I get unlucky... Plus if I don't bend them I can take them off and sell them half price on here later..

It's been on my to do list so while I appreciate your advice I'm going to fit some anyway. But thanks all the same !

It's just which ones ?

"Mirrorguards" are the best IMHO but I don't think they fit short arm mirrors (no need lol) so you have limited choice
