Hi, I have a LHD Hymer and thinking of adding a camera for UK roads. Where would be the best place to place it?

Depends where you are wanting it to look, if it’s for junctions, I just hold back a bit and can usually see to the right, I’m LHD drive and have no camera other than dash cam and reverse cam

I have the 10" version of this 4 way system:

I installed the RHD view camera on the dashboard just inside the ark of the windscreen wipers. That camera is not perfect as it gives too wide-angle a view but it does give me some warning of traffic immediately coming in the opposite direction when behind e.g a high sided lorry so that I know it is not safe to pull out and get an eyeball view of the road ahead for overtaking.

My camera siting mean I have to move the cam when closing blinds at night - No big deal. If I site it further back the view will appear even more wide angle (and if located outside there will be no means of cleaning the lens in crap weather). Perfect siting in my view, in the absence of a moderate telephoto lens would be inside a headlamp cluster with wash/wipe facilities but that is not easily achieved!

P.S I find I am less disadvantaged by LHD in the UK than I expected given the height of a MoHo cab but every little helps!

A fresel lens on the passenger window works well.
whitebeach. Ditto to both of the above replies to you.

I am also fortunate enough to have a proximity mirror fitted above the passenger cab window, so with that and the Fresnel Lens, I get to see exactly how close to an obstacle or a high kerb I am, and also able to observe cyclists coming up my inside (blind spot) when in traffic abroad. 👍

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I drive solo in Europe so have the same problem the other way around. Despite holding back at junctions, manoeuvre as if to turn left before going right at the last moment, trying to get yourself parallel with the road so the mirrors come into play etc etc, I would still occasionally get caught out when not paying attention. I originally placed at £25 dash camera on the passenger window and simply used it as a camera covering everything to the left that the mirrors couldn't see. I have more recently repurposed a garmin sat nav with wireless camera as no longer needed and little second hand value, this places the screen right in front of me and is voice controlled. Now I know this works I may look to install something specifically designed to do the job
