Leaving South of France heading for Croatia - returning to Kent - Any help, info and advice please.

Hi,

I appreciate that this is a massive ask, but having toured primarily France, Portugal and Spain for a number of years, we are now hoping to plan (very loosely) a route taking in a complete change of countries and scenery that we have zero knowledge of (Italy, Croatia, Germany, etc are complete unknowns to us that we'd love to visit).

It will all be dependent on how the world looks over the coming months, but could I ask for any help, advice and tips based as if the world was something like normal and that there are no 90 days in 180 restrictions.

The only given that we have, is that we need to be back in the UK for mid October, and we can get towards a start point from St Tropez area, at anytime really that gives us the best option to make the most out of the trip (but initially thinking of a start point of June/July, but this is mega flexible).

How long would you suggest as a good timescale to make the most of the route?

What routes and stops would you recommend? (It doesn't have to be the most direct, just a route that will give us the most enjoyment).

We love touristy places, lakes, rivers, beaches, bars, cafes, etc, and are equally as happy with 1 day stopovers as we are with bedding down for weeks at a time.

As it's all new, we would like to see as much of each place as possible to give us ammo for future outings.

We prefer Aire type stops, but wild spots and campsites, etc are fine also. But I'm not a fan (at all to be honest) of mountain roads. Also, we are 8.5m in length.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

For Germany you may want to read this one. It was done during covid times when nobody was allowed into france and we all had to to go Germany.
Unfortunately an unknown person destroyed the map so please dont ask for it.

Sorry not an answer to your question, but do you happen to know a nice place to stop at Cavalaire sur Mer ? We know the area but have never stopped there in a MH before, but would like to do so.

Love Croatia been there numerous times. We prefer the south of the country particularly the Makarska Riviera. Wild camping is not really allowed and Aire type of stops are few. Staying on local peoples land or gardens might be an option. Check out this section of my blog that covers our last trip in detail. Blog works upside down progressing from down to up so you might have to click on the month dates on the right. i think you might find it informative. https://lightningtours.blogspot.com...00-07:00&max-results=7&start=21&by-date=false
Click on 2018 on rt hand side choose month (September starts trip) and then work through each croatian resort. Hope thats clear.

Hi,

We always stayed about 10km outside on the Aire at Cavalière Plage (just after Le Lavandou).

You may want to pop in for a walk around Aiello del Fruili.
The link says it all, a town full of sun dials and a great walk round looking at all the different types.

You ought to consider Lago di Fusine which is absolutely stunning on the Slovenian/Austrian/Italian border. Couple of lovely lakes to walk round in a dolomite valley. Free stopover as well and will take your 8.5 m motor

And the Glossglockner pass. Numerous photos available on a search on here for that road. Not to be missed if in the area and well worth the 35 eurosish cost
