Evening, we are taking the Motorhome over to Europe for a couple of weeks, and potentially looking to split the journey up a little by having the odd night in a hotel. We have booked on official sites, would we be ok leaving the Motorhome parked overnight on the campsite , is this quite normal to do?!

Check the small print in your insurance document.

When on one of our 4, 6, 9 month tours, we have left our van and flown back to the UK to see our elderly parents for a couple of days.

States 48 hours allowed in our insurance.

Never had an issue, just made reception aware

Also need to do this to re-start our holiday insurance as it only covers 120 consecutive days overseas

I insure with Comfort and they make it very clear that unattended over 48hrs away from home must be notified to them so one night would be fine.
You need to check with your insurers to be sure.

I have, in the past, always used hotel carparks BUT my second line of enquiries would have been Airport carparks as most , however small, have usually got good transport links + I would hope that any insurance would have regarded this as secure parking? 🤔

What would happen if your on a campsite and your alarm went off and they couldn't find you?

Do you inform them where you can be contacted, if not and I was on the next pitch, something accidentally might happen after a couple of hours! 🤔

I'd park it at or near the hotel, somewhere on the road or in a local car park. Park4night will help you identify somewhere that might be appropriate.

As others have said, generally insurance allows you to park it unattended for up to 48 hours when not at home.

We left ours for a week once in the secure parking next to a campsite just outside Inverness but we had to get the go ahead from the insurance company. It was a bargain too at about £1.20 a night!

How about: Booking an Airbnb with off road parking. Stay in Airbnb with van parked outside.

Glad I read this as in October plan to leave van in a secure compound with good security and manned 24 hrs for 5 nights at a location in southern Italy. Will be visiting family and I know the area well, high crime area so only option. Have emailed Comfort to see what they say. If its a nono I will have to break up the visit to family in 2 parts and spend a night on the coast 45 mins away.

Left our van on a secure campsite in Turkey to visit Istanbul for 3 days. Did not think of checking with Insurance company. We told the site owner our plans and left the tracker and growler on.

All campsites I have been on take your Mobil phone number so you can be contacted

Do you have to leave your keys then so they can cancel the alarm at 2 o'clock in the morning or whenever the alarm goes off?
🤔
I thought people were supposed to be on site IF their van was on a pitch?

Surely if you are going to an hotel you just leave your van in the car park same as if you were going in a car.
