In the interest of surveying the market. Would you lease a brand new motorhome for let's say £1200 a month with a 10k mileage allowance on a 24 month contract?

Or other cheaper options at say £750 a month over a 24 month period.

Not a new one for 24 months, this is about changing every 2 years or so
In that case, no way.
How many months would you actually be useing it, if you don't want to buy one wouldn't hiring for the months you need one work out way cheaper.

Generally motorhomes have low depreciation. Recently some people have made many on motorhomes as prices have risen with lack of supply. In that case leasing is a poor deal.

In normals times it might be worth it for those that chop and change motorhomes every other year but probably not.

It would be cheaper to buy a £50k Motorhome with a loan that’s not attached to the van of around £550-£600 (less if you can find a deposit) a month over 8yrs and sell it every 2/3 years, pay off remainder of loan and do again etc. or just keep the Motorhome longer…This will increase the depreciation of your loan and likely to be less than what the van will be worth, so the van will usually pay off the loan when you come to sell, those of us still working for another 10-20yrs are more or less in a generation where we will not get final salary pensions etc. So for us it works and is affordable while working to have a nice van until I hit 55 and can cash in part of my pension pot to then buy one outright as a keeper. Unfortunately not all are in a position to buy outright but can afford the monthly out lay on finance, but still want to enjoy Motorhoming. My last 2 vans I have barely lost any money other than the up keep which would be lost either way. I just spend a long time looking and try to buy privately. Just think how many do this with cars that depreciate far quicker than a motorhome and that was also the case pre-COVID. Everybody has different circumstances and this works for us. 😁

What's the difference in the 2 options and I don't mean just the price

Not a possibility.

At two years old many of us have just sorted out the niggles with a new motorhome. Why would we want to start again so soon?

For us the 10k miles per annum would also put us off. We usually cover between 15k and 18k COVID permitting, so 10k would be restrictive.

Definitely not! If we couldn't afford to buy, we might rent for short periods to go on holiday. I couldn't see the point in leasing for it to sit on the drive for lengthy periods.

The dealer has taken a big bite out of you, then throw a finance company into the scenario, by the time you get to use it there’s nothing left of you, like a pond full of sharks 🤣

Dunno about that.

New MoHo ordered October 21 with some discount obtained, and at the ‘Price Protected’ point of delivery soon(ish) it’s RRP has already increased by over £13k - so any depreciation has been wiped out for a couple of years, and that doesn’t include the already high value that newish s/h vans are attracting, so a profit could easily be made if sold on.

If finance is required, then personal loans from the likes of Nationwide etc. have recently been as low as 2.7% and only just risen to 3.4%. How much is inflation predicted to rise over even the next 12 months?

I think that in real terms that’ll equate to something, if not plenty, left over.

I wouldn’t lease a car let alone a motorhome. NO.
Can’t afford to buy things then I don’t have things.

I have a friend who would disagree. He has plenty of money (a lot more than me and I can afford to buy a new motorhome and a new car cash) . Anyway, he has always leased cars. He seems to think it makes more sense. Difference is, I make my cars last 10 years or more. He changes his every 3.

If you were leasing at £1200 a month and 10 k miles a year what would the per night cost work out at for an average user? I suspect it would be a really really expensive way to holiday.
Most years we average about 40 nights a year. That would be say 4 a month over the year so £300 a night plus the site fees diesel etc. You'd have to be bonkers.

I would never want to be tied into anything I’ve never even looked at any of the car deals. In my world if we can’t buy it outright we don’t buy it.
Its a lot of money 14 grand a year you need to have several nights away to make it worthwhile. It takes time to make them just right and like home.

Most of my working life I had a new company car. Since I retired I am into Bangernomics. A good car can be had for a few grand, like mine. I don’t care if is not shiny and brand new anymore, (unless it’s a motorhome which is shiny but not new). Most of the time the car sits on the drive only going to the golf club or visiting my elderly dad.
