The main battery in our 5 year-old new-to-us van, which we've had a month, has died completely - registering 0.62 on a multimeter.

The seller is kindly going to stump up the cost for like-for-like but should we go for a change of type?

Find out if your charger can do all the types you are considering
Lithium is the future but what a price...... :Eeek:

I would not have thought a 5 year old van would have an inbuilt setting for lithium. it is likely it could be converted but at what price and more importantly why would you for the starter battery. ( Ah ,,,, i assumed main battery means starter battery  )

Yes, you're right. I have gotten all mixed up! Of course we want the normal battery for the vehicle - it's lithium for leisure, if we want.
duh!
I hope no-one else bothers to post!

It is not as simple as just switching battery types if you are to get the full value from the lithium. the charger must have a lithium option.

Hope nobody minds me adding to this thread

I too have a leisure battery coming up to 5 years old (cheapo 110ah Lead Acid jobbie)

My van has a Durite VSR (split charging) and, when on EHU, a Victron charger which has a Lithium setting

So: Lead Acid or Lithium?

Hi Nasher , you will ideally require all charging sources to be lithium compatible ie solar, alternator and EHU and it all adds to the cost:(. The most important would be to fit a B2B to deal with the alternator side.

Thanks for that, I was mainly wondering whether the current split charge would work with Lithium (have read elsewhere that it can - but not convinced, hence my question)

I don't have/want solar and I've done OK with a single 110ah battery - as its now 5 years old, I'll just replace it with a quality lead acid jobbie in the new year (even though it still seems to work fine)

I don't know about the Durite VSR I'm afraid. I have an Electroblock and know that works with the Votronic B2B but don't know about other models.
