Hi All,

We have a Kenwood DNX 5260BT radio/satnav unit. It seems to work fine but I want to be able to play my phone through it (iPhone 10).

I bought a cable to adapt the lightning socket to a 3.5mm aux jack and plugged that in to the Aux socket on the bottom left.

I’m sure I had it working on our last trip, way back in September but can’t remember how we did it. I now can’t make it work. I’ve been through all the menus and can’t find a button to switch the source to ‘Aux’.

I’ve tried two different cables so I don’t think its that.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Chris

You should have. Button that says SRC or source. Selecting that should take you to AUX. It should definitely work

Yep. Pressed the ‘SRC’ (Source) button and get a list of sources - but ‘Aux’ not amongst them. Tried every other source on the page in case it’s labelled oddly but nothing.

Hmmm. What sources are in the list ?
Not with the van now. Can take a pic later. All the ones you’d expect. Tuner, CD, Video, etc...

have you tried plugging in to uSB with your lightning cable ?
Yep. Thought that might be a plan B but didn’t work either. Curiously, the phone kept playing through its own speaker (unlike when In the Aux socket when the phone went silent).

On the phone there is a button to play the sound externally. Looks like an up arrow next to the volume. When plugged in to USB have you tried that? Also does the unit have Bluetooth option eg. Have you paired the phone in which case you could choose to play on Bluetooth output ?

I like reading these threads I thought there was only radio 2 , haha. All way over my head.

When your phone stopped making a noise, it was then playing through the stereo. You may have then needed to up the volume on your phone, as it has different sound levels for different devices. Bluetooth is how I connect or USB if phone needs charging.

That what I thought but played with the volume on both phone and head unit and couldn’t hear anything. I’ve been through the whole manual (it’s really long) and cant find any reference to using the Aux socket.

Has to be Bluetooth or USB then. Do you use the phone in hands free ? Is it paired with the unit?

Yep. It’s paired by Bluetooth. But also no ‘Bluetooth’ source to select! I’ve tried the USB source but no joy there either.

Use one of the video inputs but connect only the L/R audio connectors. They're badly displayed on the photo as they accept audio and video.

Try taking the power down and rebooting the radio. Easiest way would be taking the battery earth wire off for 10 seconds. It may just need a kick.

With the iPhone connected and playing music, swipe up from the bottom of your phone. Hold finger on the music square, press the circle in the top right and it lists a selection of speakers, just select which you want.

It's an iPhone X, so when I swipe up I get the 'pages' screen with all the running apps.

Have you tried scrolling on the source screen? With our Kenwood there are more sources than can fit on one screen.
Yep. The scroll buttons are greyed out. There’s only one page.

Agree most devices label the AV inputs Aux 1 & 2, on my Clarion the inputs on the rear are full AV if you select aux 1 you can play sound through the front jack.

As for Bluetooth it's quite normal, a lot of devices won't connect to Apple devices, Apple knobble there devices so they often only talk to other Apple devices.

The only sensible option is to buy an Android phone.

That Bluetooth info about Apple is wrong. I have not had any issue pairing devices with an iPhone. Portable speakers, other phones, car ICE, GPSr, etc.
It’s NFC you’re thinking of. That is poorly supported on iPhone.

Not in my experance, my Clarion will connect to any Android device won't connect to Apple. Every laptop we have had including the latest HP won't connect to the boss's crapple devices.

The only way without swopping to an earlier iPhone with a jack point I can find is to download VLC player, burn your music to flac, and hope that fools the Kenwoods software into thinking it’s a none Apple Music player.

Another alternative is to change the head unit, Pioneer are really good value just now, and have no issues with Apple compatibility

OK. Lots of people can pair an iPhone/Apple device 👍🏻
EDIT: mistake corrected 👍🏻
