Hello all

We have a large gap (about10mm) at the top of our Motorhome door (not hinge side). There is no ‘play’ in the hinges: they fit snug and the door fits well otherwise. There is some wear on the pins which secure the door, but not enough we think to account for the size of the gap. Any advice as to the cause or how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Was the gap always there, or has it just appeared?

Needs a new seal perhaps?

Hmm…. I suspect it has been there since we bought it 3 years ago, but it has got worse. I know it has always been really cold in the back of the Moho when moving, but really noticed it in the recent windy weather.

Even if we were to replace the pins which sit in the locking/closing mechanism, I do not think it would ‘close’ the gap.

The insulated seal does not look particularly worn.

The wear washers in the hinges may have worn out or fallen out, or the door not fitted correctly from new. It does happen

A quick cheap fix is to fit a upvc wedge on the bottom of the frame that lifts the door as you close it. Often see them on UPVC doors and windows

If the seal is okay and you can remove the pins, can you not put a couple of small wear washers and lift the door?

A picture would be helpful so Funsters can see the situation?

What type of MH is it?

Loosen the screws that hold the door to the doorframe, lift the door to fill the gap at the top and retighten the screws in the door frame.

Cheers!

Struggling here because we have no photos to see the problem.

If you lift the door up that will just give you a gap at the bottom won't it? So still cold. I suspect the best thing to look for is a larger seal, or there may be a seal missing. From memory our Hymer has two seals, one on the door and one on the frame.

They can be adjusted or probably pins and washers are worn.
The door can also drop if someone is using the door as a ‘help’ in and out of the van. I didn’t realise how much I was using the door in this way and we had to adjust ours a couple of years back, now I don’t touch it!
