Sadly for a short time did I manage to network my laptop to my printer without wires.

Given up on this and wonder how I can get my laptop into the with the printer via wires.

My printer is an Epson 740 and none of the leads fit my laptop so direct access at the moment is not possible as none of my laptop outlets match my printer.

Could i go USB to USB between the puters (do they make such a lead?) or what do I do?

Data Transfer.

Hi John,

It is possible to interconnect via a usb data transfer cable. An example is linked to below.

£19 delivered say.

Would I be better off looking for an all in one printer? maybe wireless?

Bare in mind I am really skint after LPG'ing the bus but need to be able to write letter and not allowed near the full PC anymore:cry:

Wireless printer might be a nice convenient option. The prices have dropped as well. You're still looking around £150 delivered though.

Personally I wouldn't go for a Lexmark. From past experience they sell the unit cheap and make up on the cost of the consumables but they may work for you.Depends on the sort of throughput you envisage and cost of carts (original or compatibles). Let me know. Might be able to get cheap carts.

What did you have in mind John?

Why are you not allowed near the Full PC?

Nothing in mind.

Irina's adopted my office and I am now not allowed in there:cry:

I am on my laptop all day now.

Maybe a printer that would just do my laptop and decent photo printer?

As long as there are USB connections on your laptop and I know there is on the Epson 740 all you need is a lead John. If you can wait till Newark I'll give you one (a USB lead for all those waiting to jump in) The 740 is a good printer shame to lay out for a new one if all you need is a lead.

Ken you coming to the Valentines meet? nudge nudge wink wink:Wink:

Nope can't make that one John:cry: Sending wifey to London with a friend at that time for a well earned break.

All you need to connect your Epson printer to your laptop is a USB A-B printer cable. They're available online for a couple of quid from Maplin. You may need your Epson driver disk but it really should be straightforward.

Thank for all your advice Guy's:Wink:

I use Network Magic on my home network, it sets up printer sharing as well as file sharing if wanted. Normally there are 2 PCs and the laptop using the network and facilities at the same time. My daughter and her daughter often come to our house with their laptops and can immediately connect wirelessly and use the printer if they wish. Network Magic needs to be installed on each computer in the network which can be up to 5 computers for the 'Home' version.

Phil.

John, if you PM me with address details I'll post you a USB printer lead this weekend, I have a few about the place. Don't junk a good printer for the sake of a lead!!

No problem you are welcome, I take it the lead arrived John. Is your printer ok now? You can download new drivers for the printer from Epson UK. You'll want the status monitor as well, I think it's status monitor 3.
