Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
We were away for a wee motorhome shakedown for the season to come, one fault did raise its head though.

Our hot water side of the kitchen tap refuses to turn off. Never had issues with it before.
The van is old, a 1995 Kon-Tiki with no microswitches, its a pressure drop activation system.

So where I need help is, do these taps have normal washers like a household tap?
If the same fault had developed in the house, I'd simply replace a washer & I'm hoping that the motorhome is the same?

All advice will be very gratefully received.

Kind regards...Robert.

picture of the tap would help apart from that ive tried to sort parts for MH Taps and ended up replacing them

Most taps will have a cartridge not washers. The way you will know is that with a washer tap you keep unscrewing the handle/lever, and get more water as you go, but with a cartridge tap the handle/lever just moves 90 or 180 degrees.

If as I think you will need new cartridge or tap. Cartridges are easy to change, but matching what you’ve got can be the difficult bit.

Hi Rob, I have a 06 Kontiki I doubt that they are that different, had leak on bathroom tap. It was easy to find replacement and replace. Don’t worry about buying one if it has cable for micro switch just cut it off. Hope this helps.

Two of our taps have failed in the past I just replaced them with household ones from Screwfix but I think it's possible to change the cartridge

I'll post a photo later, got a really bad back & I'm struggling today.

Thanks for the help so far folks, tis appreciated.

Good luck with the tap Robert, pretty sure it will be a cartridge type, you should find the correct one on-line from Flea Bay or similar, you just have to measure the outside diameter of the cartridge in mm, then match up the shape of the rear outlets on the rear of the cartridge.
Sorry to hear about the bad back, what was it?, Date Night in the van.

Oh Les, sadly my back went twang before Hazel was even at the wild camp, me thinks my days for injuring my back whilst doing the wild thing are far behind me lol.
Its still sore & I was unable to move & in agony at 5am, so plenty of noise in the bedroom, but not the kind of noise I used to make in there.
Still not even looked at the motorhome & I doubt if I'll be able to look til after the weekend. :madder:

Sorry to hear about your lower back Robert, sounds like its in spasm, I fear all you can do is to rest it, take painkillers/anti inflammatory pills like Ibuprofen.
I have to apply extra strength Ibuprofen cream on TinaL's lower back when its in spasm (Fenbid Forte 10% Gel) every night & morning until it calms down a bit. She also has 2 lower lumber injections every year, these worked for about weeks, although they seem to be becoming less effective as her hips & spine are now out of alignment because of the constant pain she lives with.
Surgery seems to be out of the question, as they say her problem is both arthritic & Parkinson's related.
I would recommend that GP prescribed cream though,(y) I even use it on my wrists, and knee when needed, after 20 mins you can feel it working, but its nothing like that old fashioned heat rub stuff, so I can visit the loo for a pee, with no worries.:giggle:
Good luck, take it easy mate, thinkin of you.

Thanks Les, my GP doesn't want me to take oral anti inflammatory tabs, but I do have gel called Piroxicam & its really good on my knee & thats what I put onto my back in the early hours. It really does help.
I've got some pain killers & with the gel they work quite well.
Tina really has my sympathies with these spasms, my back hasn't done this properly since 1992 & I'd forgotten how bloody painful it really is.

It doesn't seem too bad for now, so I'll see what the night time brings.

Robert.
