Kielder bans wild camping

I understand it includes any form of wild camping including motorhomes.

"Camper vans and adapted camping vehicles are permitted overnight at Kielder Castle Car Park, Tower Knowe Car Park and also Elf Kirk Viewing Point for a fee of £10 per night.Booking for the designated campsite is on-line only at https://kieldercampsite.co.uk/ and campers will be required to produce identification.

But you still can with a Motorhome, just not a tent

Only in designated areas & pre-booked

EDIT: Borderland beat me to it🙂

Yes, campervans are only allowed in the two designated car parks for £10 night, like they've always been, those aren't banned

With Kielder forest being so large and mainly quite remote there were a lot of pull ins were a campervan could stop and not be any hindrance to anyone else. Whilst strictly speaking overnight camping as such was illegal it was generally accepted that the authorities turned a blind eye to it if it was not causing any problems.

Will we ever understand these retarded cretins. I don't agree with ethnic cleansing, but social arsehole cleansing would work for me. Trace them, tag them and get these sodding idiots out of the countryside.

Yes, as you've just said, it was illegal and still is, you can, in your Motorhome still camp in the designated areas for a payment of £10 per night, they've only completely banned wild camping in tents in the area thanks again to the morons who as usual spoil it for everyone else.

I live in Northumberland, spend quite a bit of time in Kielder, know quite a few of the FC people, and they do move people on who are overnighting in non designated areas

I wouldn't bother tagging them, a single high velocity lead injection would certainly stop them doing it again

The Anglers Arms used to allow overnight parking and the owner said he was reliant on the motorhomes/campers to stay afloat, since lockdown he's decided to sell up, let's hope the new owners will allow campers too.

I used to regularly meet up with a couple from Scotland who regularly stopped off in Kielder Forest either on their way down or or back home, they used to wild camp and knew of others and didn't have any issues. This was 2-3 years back so may be different now. I always thought it was somewhat amusing when they went on about the remoteness and peacefulness of Kielder yet they were from the North West of Scotland.

It's really sad how folk can abuse beautiful areas like Kielder and spoil it for others, akin to what happened in Loch Lomond.
