So here I am in Santiago de Compostela. Had a very warm day yesterday (up 26-28C) and returned to the van last night to find the fridge contents warm. Having searched previous posts for suggeations I've double-checked that we're level but there has been no improvement today even with the fridge (Thetford N3000) turned fully up.The fridge appears to be working on 240v electricity in that it is making a noise and generating heat but just not cooling. The strange thing is that if I switch to gas it refuses to ignite.

Any bright ideas for a cure or, more improbably, a possible source of repair between here and Santander.

TIA

No idea but I saw somewhere that they work better at a lower setting. And no I can’t explain

I thought I read on here too turn your fridge down! If it struggles in hot weather.

If warm remove your outer fridge vent covers and leave off whilst parked up. Try and keep that side in shade too.

when you select gas are you getting anything? Clicking from ignition?

Have had this as have a good few others.

Fitted 3 12v case fans 20 x20 mm behind the top vent.
Switched or on a thermal relay.
Keeps fridge cool and turned down to 1/2 power.
Feed tapped into solar regulator and very quiet

You can buy the kit but around £60 last time I looked.

Just doing current van waiting for parts total outlay around £10.

Just fitted to my new to me van. Two 120mm fans at £5.99 each, electronic temp controller with remote probe £7.99. All parts available for less from China if you're prepared to wait, I wasn't.

Our small fridge runs at 3 to 3.5 in all temps.
When hot the fan kicks in.
Really hot we take the covers right off the vents.
Turning the temp control up does not help.
There was a post on here about this a few weeks ago.

Assuming the fridge/freezer is in working order, without faults then I would guess that the fridge vents are unshaded and were facing the Spanish sun, which if the temperature was in the mid to high 20’s, it would be considerably more in direct sun exposure. I generally try and set up with the canopy (wind-out) awning covering the vent side if south facing, or set up with the vents facing north.
