Given the demise of Intelsat last year and now the risk of Starlink cutting us off after 2 months (details need to be confirmed) I have been looking at back up options for TV in Spain before we head off for winter.
I ordered a Kabelio module from Amazon and have installed it today but won’t activate until I need it as you get 3 months free with the card (£56) Once it runs out subscription can be added for monthly or yearly use but you need a Swiss address, any address.
Has anyone else used this system, looks like a good solution, transmits via Hotbird.

You need a Swiss address to order activate the card, get the free three months, then to renew the subscription.

Given you have the card, then perhaps just using a random address, like the university, or hotel, can be used, since i doubt they will send anything postal there, with it all being on line.

That is the plan, I shall see how it goes. Lot of talk on the German Motorhome forums about it and they indicate any address does the trick for setting up and buying annual subscription. I shall see what happens with Starlink changes from continent use to country use and 2 months limit out of country. We do prefer the simplicity of satellite for viewing, just much easier than firestick etc

Never heard of this before but looks a decent bit of kit, unfortunately we don’t have an 85cm dish that they recommend. I wonder if it would work with smaller dish when down in Spain.

If you can get hot bird sat it should be Iokay think 85cm will be for the extremes

Works fine on my 80cm dish in Valencia, as the Hotbird signals is strong all over Europe , and beyond!

I did a video on my YT channel earlier this year about it :

Yes, slots into the CI module I’m sure the latest Avtex will have one. I recently bought the latest Avtex but sent it back as it seriously messed up my Oyster V dish. Avtex are aware of the issue and offered to send a patch but I didn’t have laptop with me so sent it back instead. It was an impulse buy at a show, nothing wrong with the one I have.
I have not activated my card as we are not in a mainland Europe until the end of October. I shall update how it goes.

Didn’t see this post until today. If you look on the main Starlink topic, I’ve successfully migrated to a Spanish based subscription for Starlink… 👍🏻

My Kabelio module is working perfectly in Spain. I did upgrade my Sat receiver to one with a CI+ slot. Not sure if it will work with the older CI slots.

how did you get on with registering the Kabelio module
I'm wondering if it will work with the latest AVTEX smart TV , it has a Cl+ slot

And they all said satellite was dead........

We still find it the most convenient and reliable way to watch TV, with fire stick etc as a backup.

stewartwebr. How are you getting on with your Kabelio setup Stewart, and are you and Satandpcguy and HymerB699* able to give us an idea of the monthly/annual subscription costs please?

Cheers,

Jock. :)

If it has a CI+ slot you should have no problem. I just street viewed a town in Switzerland, and chose an address. It’s just a requirement, and not checked. Activation only took a couple of minutes.

Amazon have them at £55 for 3x months viewing so that would do me for winter sun viewing then purchased again the following year.

Hi Jock,

I haven’t tried it yet, we were heading to Spain but our French Visa was rejected so we headed to Thailand instead. The card we bought was from Amazon and gives you 3 months with the price of the card. If you want subscription after that then you pay an additional amount and need a Swiss address. (Any address)

stewartwebr. Yes, I saw the card on sale in the UK for £55, and I've been on the Kabelio website, but I can't seem to establish the subscription costs, post the 3 x month trial.

Good grief, how did that happen, (if you don't mind me asking)? :xeek: Was it an admin error on the documentation, or a misunderstanding by the authorities?
On the upside, I hear that Thailand can be quite an interesting destination. :xwink:

Enjoy. :xThumb:

Appears a lot of other motorhomers suffered the same issue this year. A few of them on here and at least another 4 couples we know of. No idea why, you can appeal but needs to be written in French, sent via snail mail and can take up to 3 months.
It feels like this will be our new plan, spend winter here in Thailand. Weather is better and prices are cheaper. We just booked one way flights to come back next November. We will head to Spain when we return at the end of February, returning via Luxembourg to catch Bonny Tyler in concert. Seen her years ago so fancy another go.

An alternative if you are like us going to be in Portugal for most of the 90 days. Portugal Internet gives unlimited access, no caps you rent the dongle by having it posted anywhere in Portugal usually next day pay as we did for the first 30 days then just extended till you no longer need it. Then just drop it into a post box before you leave the country. After the first 30 days it’s just a Euro a day. Using a vpn get bbc, itv etc.

Hi all,

Saw that no one had posted the further subscription prices (in Euro's) so here they are.................

Has anyone been using Kabelio and have any feedback?

I have used it and it works fine here in the UK and based on other feedback regarding reception footprint it looks like it will be ok for the rest of Europe.
