Over the next month or so this will be stripped to bare metal and repainted. The wheels will be replaced and the gears updated. The handlebars will be renewed and the saddles changed for Brooks.

It will go from 54/44 at the front and 12/28 (5 gears) at the back to 50/34 at the front and 11/34 (10 gears) at the back. The quill stem shifters will go to be replaced by Shimano Tiagra flat bar shifters.

Should end up a good ride and a bit of fun.....

Watch this space.

Idler pulley on the front chain, don't see many of those.

Good eyes to spot that!

Helps keep tension on the long front chain as well.

Instead of eccentric front bottom bracket.

I was trying to look and see what frame it was, I decided quite basic because of the aforementioned idler but I will be happy to be corrected.

It has labels from Santana Sports in Essex, not Santana tandems in the US. Can't find anything about Santana Sports.

Now that some of the paint is off I can see that the welds are not the best but the frame is solid with no repairs....so nothing that can't be tarted up!

Mine has an eccentric bottom bracket, so just an allen key to adjust the front chain tension.

Good quality components..... Ultrasonic bath and a scub brings then up nicely. Bottom bracket bearings and headset.

Good work.

Th stoker bars look a bit low though, you can get a variety of stems to give more lift if required (you most likely know that)

The wife does like to sit up straight on a bike so I have a set of handlebars similar to the front set on the way for her. The ones on at the moment were just lying around in the shed.

Looking at it, I could also turn the stem upside down to give a 7 degree up slope......
