I’ve purchased a “Compact” 7.5T Horsebox to convert to a Motorhome.

It’s about 7m long in total.

What’s your experiences with getting on to campsites with a vehicle like this? Obviously I’ll register it as a Motorhome once the conversion is done, but some people have said it might be difficult finding sites.

You'll be fine, around 25% of the vans on any site will be longer than you. Look forward to seeing the conversion, please do document the process here.

Welcome to the fun

Sounds like a good idea, certainly lots of payload as long as you use sensible materials!

Horse boxes seem to be quite tall. You may find that the vehicle's height is an issue with overhanging trees on sites and pitches.

It’s around 3.5M tall so it shouldn’t be too bad but definitely something to keep an eye on 👍

It’s low mileage and the chassis has been treated right through before the current box was fitted.

7 m is standard for mid-sized motorhomes. Ours is 7.3 m, and we have never had a problem with any site.
I think I’ve been concerned because it’s 7.5T but I guess I’m forgetting the size or some Motorhomes now. 👍

Makes me wonder how the tuggers get some of their rigs into some of the sites we’ve been to.
Never had to tell a site how tall we are 2.8m in our case but over hanging branches might cause you some problems on the smaller tighter entrances to some camp grounds, doesn’t hurt to call your site before hand.
Google street view is good for this.

No problem with length but I suspect some sites may not want a commercial looking van on site.
Someone on here was moaning that a site complained about his new transit van looking commercial.
Not sure whether they used it to tow a caravan. (Maybe the caravan had Burger Van written in it?)🤣
